This was a common method for trapping squirrel in northern Sweden in the old days. The pine log was usually around 25-30 cm thick and around 1 meter long. The figure four trigger was commonly used.
The deadfall was placed in spruce trees in areas where the squirrels were, either on the lower branches or on wedges hammered in the trunk. The trigger pin were usually baited with dryed boletes mushrooms.
Squirrels were mainly trapped for their fur which were payed as tax or sold. The meat were often dryen before cooked and sometimes the stomach were eaten but only if it contained seeds and nuts.
Hope you enjoy.
