By slowly cooling down molten bismuth, complex structures of bismuth crystals are formed. The oxide layer on the metal surface gives it a spectacular rainbow-colored coating. Color of the crystal depends on temperature when crystal is exposed to oxygen in the air. Hotter temperatures produce orange and yellow-ish colors and lower temperatures correspond with blue and purple colors.
