Great job breaking down the overview process. Boba Fett helmets are a real time investment in painting. The dented helmet and Lewis Fx are a great way to jump into the details for anyone interested in attempting one of these.

Absolutely amazing! It's great to see techniques I use in smaller scales being used on something life sized, and see it work in 1:1 scale too!!! Beautiful work, thanks for sharing this awesomeness!!!

Great tutorial showing how easily it can be done if you have the patience for it. I do have one question as I am slightly confused. After you trace the damage, apply the liquid latex, and paint, before going on the next set of damage to trace to you remove the liquid latex or do you just keep it all on and remove it all at the end? If you remove it in between each color, how do you avoid painting over the previous color you jsut added?
@InterstellarModeler

Thanks for watching and yes....keep it on until the end. You may have to reapply as you go along. Sometimes you accidentally rub some of it off.

This is one of the most useful videos I've ever watched on the painting. Love that you take the time to show each step at different points. It helps those without the experience and cuts out the guess work. I know this is a little old but what paints and liquid mask did you use?
@InterstellarModeler

+James Peters Sorry for the late reply and thank you for your kind comments. You'll find all the paints listed in part 2 around 6 minutes into it. As for the liquid masking fluid, I used Humbrol's Maskol which can be found on Ebay and other model sites. Thanks again.

Very nice seeing you work on some prop/costume work, this is turning out really well - you should be very happy! Question: does the Humbrol masking fluid smell quite bad?
@InterstellarModeler
9 жыл бұрын
The KitBase No it doesn't really have an odor that lingers anyway. I mean if you sniffed the bottle you could smell something but it really is very nice to work with. Thanks for your kind comment

If I understood this correctly you trace the pattern on to the helmet layer by layer and placing the liquid mask to protect that layer and you spray paint the need color over it and wipe if off?
@InterstellarModeler

yes that's correct. I highly recommend checking out Blaidon Props here on youtube. He's a master at making the Boba Fett helmets.

This may be a stupid question, but do the masking fluid work with spray paint? Im about to paint my Boba helmet but I don't have access to an airbrush so I have to go with spray-cans instead. Your helmet turned out amazing btw, and thanks for posting these vids, they are really helpful :)

Just wondering I've been having trouble trying to figure out how you've added the green paint after you've done the stencils. Did you layer the dark green first and just mask it off for the stencils ?
@InterstellarModeler
8 жыл бұрын
+thejimmyrayvon Hi....the area was first painted silver, then I stenciled on the pattern for the dark gray color. After that I stenciled on the pattern for the light concrete color (covering the silver and dark gray zones in the process with masking fluid) then proceeded to paint (the concrete color). It was after this that I stenciled on final pattern for the green color (4:45 in the video) Those areas were complete covered with masking fluid after which the green paint was applied. I wish there was an easier way to convey this in writing. I would highly recommend viewing Lewis-White Fx's videos. He goes into much more detail about this process. I hope that helps and thanks for watching.
