Good job. Preparing the tube is definitely the hard bit. Keep in mind the bottom end of the tube doesn’t have to be as carefully smoothed as the business end, I wouldn’t spend nearly as much time on it. You’re using extremely heavy wire for the frame, maybe you could get away with something more easy to work with? Bike spokes are available in varying thickness, worth a try.

Hello Callum. Thank you for your comment. I used 2.5mm wire for heavier boobin and 1.5mm wire for smaller one. Can definitely get away with 1.5mm wire. Thank you for your advice.

Great job! To me, however, the little money it cost to buy a premade one is worth it as the amount of time, materials and necessary tools would cost me too much for the effort to make it! Thanks!

Hello Mike. Thank you for your comment. I agree the time, money, and effort definitely don't make it worth while. Plus they do make some good quality bobbins now a days for cheap. For me it was the challenge of been able to make it myself. As lures made with my own bobbin feel more rewarding to catch fish on. All the best.

Just wanted to drop a Thanks for the toothpick/compound idea. 20+ yrs as a weldor making sculptures and various home decor and you've taught this old dog a new trick! Well done. - I usually don't require that fine a finish, so I use a small, round standard type needle file first then a small diamond needle file. I mount the files in my drill. (The first takes off the heavier burs and saves wear on the diamond.) I've also got a cheap set of diamond rotary tool bits that have a few cone shaped bits that also work well. Either of these would be good for you, or others reading here, as first and second steps, before the toothpick polish stage. - Another option for doing the final polish to both inner, outer, and face of the tube end: Take the tube and tap it into a wood block, just enough to make a 1-2mm dimple. Wood should be a fairly hard wood like maple, oak, etc. (Alternative could be 5mm+ thick leather). Jam your compound into the dimple. Chuck up your work piece tube into a drill and run the tube in the dimple to polish all three surfaces at once. -Make several dimples for various grades of compound if you want to go crazy. Also varies size dimples if you work with different size tubes. I've got a drawer of brass, copper, and aluminum modelling tube in my shop, so going to build with those. Easier to polish too! :) ???- What are the brand/model#/name of those ring/cone pliers you've got, @ 7:10 ? Never seen ones with cones that big. Thanks for the video!

Hello wingnutbert9685 Thank you for your kind, detailed comment. Standard and diamond round needle files would definitely work well to remove bigger burs. I like your idea of tapping the tube in to a block of wood, that can be rough polishing and then by using the leather can be fine finishing polish. Thank you for sharing. Them round nose pliers with big cones I came across on ebay. I believe it was a shop/seller in England. I never seen pliers like that before so I had to buy them. The brand was Wubbers and they wore called Tapered round mandrel pliers. Hope that helps you out. All the best
