A non-bakers first try at making French Bread from scratch, with pretty good results.
Recipe used in this video:
1 Cup Water @ 105 - 110 degrees F
1/2 Tablespoon Active Dry Yeast
1 1/4 Teaspoon Sugar
3 Cups of flour
1 1/4 Teaspoon Salt
1/2 Olive Oil
1/4 Teaspoon Garlic Powder (Optional)
The outcome was a fairly dense, but tasty finished loaf, overall time was about 2 hours, most of that was dough resting time, or baking time.
Not sure why I waited so long to try making my own bread, when it's definitely one of my favorite foods of all time. I'm going to continue trying new recipes, I want to make sure I can make something that I'm really happy with. This was a nice start, but I want the next one to be fluffy and airy on the inside, and I want the crust to be more crisp and flaky like the loafs sold at the bakery. I have some proper Bread Making Flour on the way from Amazon, I'll give this another go with the right flour, and I'll add steam to the oven, plus I will focus on preventing the air from coming out of the dough, stay tuned for round 2.
