Best soap tutorial yet! No OTT talking. No kids screaming. Simple texts whilst demonstrating with measurements. Awesome!

Advice from a scientist soap maker. Sodium hydroxide in its solid form is fine in glass, but when made into an aqueous solution dissolves glass over time. In our analytical lab we would never dare keep concentrated NaOH in glass only plastic bottles.

"glass only plastic bottles"? Glass or plastic? I used ceramic bowl to mix Lye and water; is that ok? thanks

They meant don't keep sodium hydroxide in glass. Use only plastic bottles. Like the jug it probably comes in. I think they were concerned about mixing the lye and water in glass, not realizing it wasn't for very long.

Ahh I love 100% coconut soap! I'm experimenting with how to get the 20% superfat to be avocado oil, rather than coconut.
@leroybrownie9188

You do that by making it HP (hot process). You'd add the avocado oil after the soap has cooked, before you put it in the mold.

I loved your tutorial, one question, this does not require resting for weeks? is this because of the cooking process and reaching the good ph level? thank you for video and for replying.
@Artisanman
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks - Yes cooking the soap speeds up the Saponification process so the soap can be used immediately after it comes out of the moulds, saving you the six week wait like the cold process method. For soap to be ready it goes through the gel phase, this means the Ph changes from blue (alkaline) to a neutral (safe) - Heat speeds up this stage substantially, but for cold process soap this is a long process.

Yes you can, and having a high superfat it shouldn't dry your hair out.

Hi, does your hair become oily?
@Js20639
6 жыл бұрын
Shampoo bars made from pure coconut oil are usually superfatted to 10 or 12 %. If you have oily hair start with 10% and see how your hair feels. I have dry hair and superfat my coconut oil soap at 14% See here for a recipe www.mommypotamus.com/shampoo-bar-recipe/

It can even be super fatted at 30%. If you think it's horrible, you have really sensitive skin or used a bar that wasn't super fatted sufficiently.

SimpleOrganicSoap ... believe it or not, I superfat my CO soap at 35%, and it’s still pretty harsh. I love coconut oil, but using it alone in a soap is a no no.
