Most people think and see knifes as weapons. The amazing man shows us that, this is not the case. The knifes he makes are the most beautiful pieces of art. I am honoured to have watched your videos sir.

+brandon kehl Thaks Brandon. I used the blade because it was free, but I still do not know the metallurgy of the steel. I know it has to be high carbon because it rusts and was really hard to cut with a disk grinder.
@germasilverback187
8 жыл бұрын
+SLAVIK TELY From what I gather a disk blade is what the farmers use to cut through tat soil and it has to be strong. Very high carbon steel and I've heard a story from my dad of a man that used to make his own knives about the same way you do. I think you both have your own style of making what is in your soul and the disk blades(metal you used) are about the very best you can get like that. Very well done.

@culatramen
8 жыл бұрын
Nice work you did there. But tell me a think,that knife dont need hardening and tempering?
@SLAVIKTELY
8 жыл бұрын
The reason you harden and temper is so the blade holds it's edge. If you do not want that then you do not need to do it.
@meestichelaar1302
8 жыл бұрын
depends how hot the steel gets, if it gets too hot it'll lose it's hardness and therefore won't hold an edge, however its better to harden and temper it to play it safe.

I use sharpies. But try Dykem blue. It holds up to the heat better than the sharpie. Of course it can't be used on oily steel.

would you say the saw blade knifes are good to make knifes out of?
@SLAVIKTELY
8 жыл бұрын
+Easton Hay I do not know that for sure because you would have to call the manufacturer of the saw blade to find out the metallurgy of the steel. I have never done a knife before, so I chose what I had available just to try out and see what kind of a knife I can make. As of right now I am making two hunting gut hook knives. I have ordered CPM S-35VN stainless steel (very expensive) from New Jersey Baron and I will have those professionally heat treated. I will know for a fact that it is good steel but as for saw blade, I have no idea. The saw steel was just to practice on. I know it is high carbon steel because it rusts and leaves stains on the blade. I hope I was some help to you.
