This was one of your more easier tuts but I struggled because I wanted to try something original. I still didn't crack it but I will. How the program reads nulls and "" and use of and/or still aren't concrete enough to me. I'm noticing your use of isnull a lot so I'm trying to understand the deeper meaning why. Your a super great resource though man. Thanks for the time. You make it seem easy

you cannot assign Null value to any object. so I use Null to test it first before I use the next code. The code will be compiled if the related item is not null. Null is different from "" For example, when you open the form to add new customer name, the customer name text box is null. However, you enter a name on the customer name text box then you type backspace to delete that name. Now this customer name text has no name, but it is "". It is not null any more. At this time when you are using if Isnull(me.CustomerName) then msgbox "It has null value" end if You will not get any message. But if you use if Me.CustomerName ="" then msgbox "It has blank value" end if you will get a message "It has blank value" Hope it helps.

Yeah it helps a lot. I spent all night and all today reading up on the msdn site just starting from scratch on the foundational meanings of a lot and the discussion of null vs. blank came up a lot. I also just looked at the entire list of functions. While I haven't read them all, I did run across isnull, isempty, assigning null and assigning empty as well. It's a lot man but I'm loving it

Also, I realized I had a string assigned but if I assigned a variant, I wouldn't have received the persistent error that i did. i definitely tested for "= to null" and not isnull at 1st multiple times. Also, thanks for your SQL recordset search tutorial too. Those quotations are deadly!! But with patience and debug.print, I'm able to spot the issue much faster

you just add more color with ElseIf section like: Private Sub Form_Timer() If Me.Addnew.ForeColor = vbRed Then Me.Addnew.ForeColor = vbYellow ElseIf Me.Addnew.ForeColor = vbYellow Then Me.Addnew.ForeColor = vbGreen ElseIf Me.Addnew.ForeColor = vbGreen Then Me.Addnew.ForeColor = vbBlue Else Me.Addnew.ForeColor = vbRed End If
