So if I have my own statue made of clay, would it be helpful to coat the sculpture with polyurethane before applying the latex? Would a smoother surface prevent the rubber from sticking?

Hi, I have very thick paint of multiple layers on my model. Would I try to get the paint off of the model or just try to smooth the paint ridges with clay?

WHY.? did you make a seem on the latex mould and then show us a mould that you used that did not have a seem on it at all. when i was looking at the model i did not understand why you needed a seem on this model as i thought it did not need one any way. and i was right the other mould you used did not have one, only the mould you where making originally had one. a bit confusing to the first time mould maker.

Hey Jeffrey I've purchased some of holdens latex and I'm now wondering if I have to put some sort of wax on the object first before applying the latex to make the mold.....if so please help me out by stating what kind of wax and brand you recommend

If you are talking about selling your mold, then I would recommend a clear acrylic, or a shellac. Let them cure for a day before applying the rubber.

Correct. You want to seal your model before you apply your rubber.

@@jeffreygononsky2366 Appreciated thanks. Can you please tell me why my latex is coming away from my model (a bust) in the tight places, around the neck of the bust for example, it's so frustrating, is there something I have to apply to make the latex "take hold?" Thanks for any info.
@jeffreygononsky2366

@@COLEEN322 It could be due to the bust being very smooth. Natural Latex has some shrinkage to it, but if it's only pulling away at the bottom, you might want to introduce some Ceco Powder into the latex you apply in that area to help thicken it up.

@@jeffreygononsky2366 Thanks Jeffrey. I am not familiar with Ceco Powder, however, would thickened latex (with thixotropic) be an equivalent? Would this help set the latex in the deep spots of the bust? Thanks again Jeffrey in advance.

This is a great video but I'm lost on one thing. The foil seams were added to th wings and the front was supposed to be too but when it was demolded and the fiberglass was added, the foll seams were gone! Can someone explain that to me? I've never understood what the metal seams where for - if you actually cut seam or if the metal was there to make it easier to pull latex over wings/tail or whatever. I've seen this on angel wings an on a bird's tall. But on this video, they aren't there when demolded. I'm sure I'm missing something but can someone tell me what?
@jeffreygononsky2366

The foil is used to create the seems. It performs as a barrier when applying the latex rubber. This way you can apply rubber on both sides of the foil, and the rubber won't stick to each other, and when the rubber cures you have a seam.

Jeffrey Gononsky my concern is that the latex will tear at the thin seams when removing the mould. Is that a common issue?

How long between latex application
@jeffreygononsky2366

The latex is designed to have layers applied every hour, or when the current layer is tacky to the touch. You can accelerate this by using a fan to blow across the surface of your mold.
