Thank you for this video. Out of all of the videos on How to Price Your Work, etc... You video makes the most sense. Easy to understand and to follow.

Thanks man I really appreciate that! I know I’ve watched a lot of those videos and had to watch 15 to understand them and was able to compile what I learned to make this formula

That formula (+/- % materials and +/-% overhead ("profit")) is the ONLY way to work. Anyone that tells you (materials*x) doesn't value their time. Also, if you got free material, that doesn't mean it is free to the client - the cost to the client should be the cost to replace the material, i.e., price each job as if you're buying it all in now, not using stock. Only 15 seconds in.

Absolutely if your using stock u already have that is stock you paid for and if it cost you money that get transferred to the project price

That's a great formula. I make mostly cutting boards and dice trays and this formula (especially if I build in batches) makes the most sense for my type of shop. Thanks!!!!

That’s awesome I’m glad it helps! I did that too for a while and it was actually where I developed this

Great job explaining this formula! I think a lot of us, at least starting out, fail to pay ourselves properly for the work we do. This was a great reminder!

Yea absolutely we have to value the work that we do and we what a lot of people don’t think about is adding value to the market. If we continue to under cut all the guys around us the value for what we do goes down and no one will ever make what they’re worth

How do you estimate for big projects that you have not done?
@ShepherdsWorkbench

What I usually do is break the entire job down into steps and guess the time that it would take for each of the steps and total it together. You may not have done the whole job before but the steps along the way we have probably all done at least once and you can get a better idea of the total time of the whole job if u map out the small steps
