Silencing the critical voice is such a challenge. My tip would be to lower your standards. The first draft of anything is always shit. The gold arrives in the editing. Power on 🔥😀👍

Glad I came across this video. I just got done with a beat making session after not working for about 2 weeks. Not my best work but I pursued and made what made me happy. I think I'm transitioning between knowing what to do in every situation and making the experimental hit or miss stuff that makes me feel seen

Making music from vocals only is so refreshing! When I sit down with my guitar I often feel like I do the same old tricks, stuck in a pattern of emotionally similar sounding noddling. There is this famous story about Mozart, copy/paste from google.. "Mozart attended an evening service at the Vatican and heard Allegri's Miserere. That same night-after just one hearing-young Wolfgang transcribed the piece from memory". True or not, he heard it and replicated it, probably with some flare of his own to it. Hearing music inside the head is like a muscle, and being able to riff over it by singing was a real wake-up call for me. Doesnt need to be anywhere near the level of Mozart for it to work well, lol. More focus on melodies through singing, make the music serve the melody. Lyrics are gobberish, maybe a word here and there to set an emotion. Maybe a bpm click or beat. Its an exploration. Another big bonus is that you get better at singing, forcing yourself to explore new techniques etc, but your brain will also "fill in" what you lack, hallucinations of vocal exellence, hahah.. Having a huge "library" of how genres and instruments sound really helps. Then its all about cross pollination and getting down a rough draft. Maybe some quick acapellas to emulate instrumental voicings that you hear while singing your heart out. Experiment with feeding ideas into the session, like pictures, sounds of bees or water or w/e, be observant of your surroundings (why isnt there more sound effects in music?! music tip: Artist: Mid-Air Theif - EP Crumbling) Before a session, can help to dial in your vocals by listening to your favorite vocalists, will probably help the brain "fill in" that sweet Sam Fender belting or Jeff Buckley falsetto, when you can't make it. Like all the fake growling and screaming we all wish we could do with force and conviction, but comes out as a distorted weezing (with a blast beat in our head ofc). Singing in the shower is crucial Great video! Keep it up! :)

I LOVE the way that this sounds. Even if it is so simple it really is nice to listen to. It kind of reminded me of Harry Styles

I find it to be the opposite. Whenever I take a break for a while from making music, I feel refreshed and I make my best stuff.

There is that one Band called King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Its a metal band who sometimes did songs just because there in a different mood. Its sound quiet similar. Listen too Evilest man or Ambergris. Much love like always Ellen ❤❤❤

I think when you haven't made something in a while your first thing should be kinda generic and easy. It acts as a warmup and kinda defeats the critical voice as long as you do it it's a win. If you haven't run for a while you're probably not gonna PB your first run back.
