well i meant the channel hasn't changed and is covering the same things, even if jen's and my personal preferences have shifted a bit. it's usually a complaint that i "never cover heavy games anymore" to which i generally reply in my head "have i missed any lacerdas? did you not see X and Y and Z i've filmed in the last few months? etc." :)

Seriously your final thoughts are your final thoughts! I watch the videos to see the game play and hopefully see something I might enjoy. If that’s not the case I have use my own opinion to buy or not. Your doing an amazing job giving people an option to use there own brain to decide if the game you review is for them or not. How can you have negative comments.you offer detail on something that would cost seriously amounts of money to buy to find out it’s not for them.

Your final thoughts are just fine. Keep doing what you're doing, the way you're doing it. Like you, I often don't agree with Tom Vasel (and the Dice Tower in general), in large part because you are way more consistent, I feel, than they (and others) are in their opinions on games.

How is Bora Bora cutthroat? It has so many options and different paths you can pursue and even if people are aggressive with their dice placements to cut you off there are plenty of cards that can give you flexibility. Especially with two people and even more so with two married people who aren't inclined to be cutthroat it should be a breeze. As a non-interactive eurogamer I find Bora Bora a delight. And this new city collection has made me very grateful for having all those games in their original form because I can't say I'm excited with what they've done with them, visually and gamewise.

it's been many years since i played, but iirc the fact that i can take an action that i need to do with a die that lets you still do what you want, OR i can take the same action in such a way as to screw you over, and generally in a 2p game it's the wiser move to screw you over, is what never sat well with us :)

You disliked the fallout series, liked the last Jedi and the final game of thrones season? Damn three heavy hits to my trust in you :-p But it is interesting how counter peoples opinions can be on some matters and yet i respect your opinion on many games even though we have very different scopes for how enjoyable a non carebear game can be. I think doing runthroughs like you do in addition to the final thoughts is an excellent way for anyone who may not have the same sentiments as you still get a strong sense of the game through seeing the play and thought process carried out so you are definitely doing a good thing there (:

I recently saw content from Alex Radcliffe from BoardGameCo and Tia from Tabletop Tokki talking about being an educated board game consumer. She also did one recently on how to sell your board games. Would love to get your take on these topics.

Just to push back on people who don't like your other contributors, I have been viewing content from Kimberly, Amy & Maggie, Monique & Naveen, and Paula long before they joined your channel and love all of them. It's funny that a few months ago, you said that if you could get someone else, it would be Tia, who I love as well. I know this is one person's opinion, but I thought I would counterbalance the complainers.

15:19 But when I read that comment, I interpreted it that he/she does not watch your (Rahdo’s) channel, as much - but they may watch other board game content creators more instead (that is just MY interpretation, based on the limited information which I see - it doesn’t say not in the hobby as much).

I always assumed ( i believe i am correct), along with the need to balance life/work, you have more content creators on your channel now, because you saw the importance of and value in various view points on games.

I don’t understand why Queen can’t get review copies to you. Is it more different than just boxing them up and shipping to you? Games travel around the world every day. Sounds like they’re not being honest with you.

well, there are miscommunications and unexpected hurdles all the time in day to day life. no reason to assume anything nefarious. hanlon's razor is usually ultimately revealed to be the fundamental law of humanity :)

Funding is dropping because people simply can't afford to back everyone's patreons, period. There are so MANY patreons from every freaking youtuber asking for handouts, who can afford all that?

yup, that's a combo of two forces at work:1) inflation is squeezing a lot of people, and 2) there's more competition in boardgame media for eyeballs than there are actual eyeballs! :)

In Australia mortgage rates are way higher the last year than they have been for 2 decades. I guarantee voluntary contributions and donations are the first thing people cut back on. I'm happy to chip in Rhado, what is the best method for you to save your own fees?
@rahdo

@@Valcurdra thanks! backing on patreon is the better option because it only charges around 12% in fees, while backon on youtube is just over 30% (which is why i "charge" more on youtube for the same perks)

I'm not the Patreon guy but yeah, it may only be 1/7th of your weekly output (now 0) but it is the overall shift in channel dynamics and vibe which makes it feel more like signal and less message. And it isn't easy to put a finger on it hence it represents like 1/50th+ of the reason why people halt funding on your Patreon. Your channel just feels like a mesh of stuff compared to how it used to be pretty straightforward, swallowable content. Clicking into your channels videos and sorting by recent is just not an enjoyable experience.

actually, that's sort of not the case. if you subscribe to the capitalist "time = money" view of the world (thanks ben franklin), then the time you literally give to me by watching my videos translates to money in my pocket in a few different ways: by watching my videos you are giving me anywhere from 1 tenth of a cent to a half a cent (depending on a bunch of different weird youtube factors), so over time, you are still helping me pay my woke bills! plus, by watching and subscribing and commenting, you're telling the youtube algorithm that more people should see my videos, so again, you're helping me pay my woke bills! :)
