Athangudi is a small village in Sivaganga District, in Tamil Nadu, India. The village has a population of about 2,000 inhabitants and is mainly known for chettinad houses, tiles, and various foods.
The place is known for its floor tiles called as "Athangudi tiles". The tiles are handmade and have traditional patterns and design.The tiles are known for their colourful and intricate patterns, the creation of which, is an art in itself. Most designs used in Athangudi tiles are traditional, however, the designs can also be customised. Exuding a heritage appeal, the cement tiles are similar to mosaic and aren't machine pressed, but handmade The tiles are durable and eco-friendly. Cost-wise, both coloured oxide flooring and Athangudi tiles are economical and can even be cheaper than some vitrified tiles.Athangudi tiles are basically cement tiles like mosaic, but unlike the machine pressed and produced mosaics, they are handmade over glass surfaces. ...
