His argument was that they should work on stabilizing the game so that they can make their release date. You don't think conflicts will arise when you're working in a group? At least he's giving his opinion... it would be worse if he didn't say anything or didn't express any concern at all. There has to be dialogue when you're working with other people.

You can see here that when the programmer brings up the budget, Hideo is basically like, get the fuck outta here with that nonsense. Kinda funny to see, Konami didn't like that, but oh well. That mentality made better games. It's unfortunate that they didn't let it right out, at least through Phantom Pain. So unfortunate...

@WoolFlannel I work with a small indie company as developer and I can guarantee it's more complex than sitting in front of the screen doing work. The main thing is you dont usually finance the projects by yourself (or your team/studio), you need 1) a publisher and/or 2) investors, they all set you some terms and time limits, so basically working arround it is really important or otherwise they will shut the money flow with which you pay the studio bills, salaries, marketing etc... Also every new generation becomes more advanced and with it, harder and more complex to work on AAA games, since it potentials raises it takes more time to polish the final product to reach it's peak performance. I can guarantee it's stressing and frustrating at times, but the videogame maket has moved forward and thats something really positive, as an anecdote , some years ago I remember saying '' i work as a game developer '' and people would simply tell you something like ''oh, so you play videogames all day''... or ''videogames are for little kids'' ... The vision was different, both in it's social and economical parts , it was really hard to get someone to finance your project if you didn't have a publisher, people didn't even believe in the potential of videogames, but after some events like GTA5 selling i dont know how many millions in couple days... everything changed.

@@traxyt1128 GTA5? I mean didn't Halo 2 and 3 break the world records for fastest selling entertainment product of all time? Videogames were raking in billions before GTA 5 came out.
I'm a game designer too, but I can understand that the game engine they're working on for MGS4 has an emulator for PS3. This emulator have the input library specified for PS3 controllers, and a basic keyboard input for debug mode etc. It was emulated carefully to mimic the PS3 hardware so that their product will work properly when it is burned into a disc and played on PS3. Also, all games were designed in PC, then PC assembled it into a full game, and then is burned into DVDs, thats how it work

As a programmer I totally make the same case every time I'm working with project leads, A pause is needed to stabilize the product before going forward. Continuing will only create more bugs.
Yeah, as a programmer, I know how does it feels to have 12,000 bugs laying around the game. It would take me one whole year to fix it all by myself + overtime :( And, I do agree that programmer wants everything they program is stable, no-bug and smooth refresh rate, and only adds new feature if there is no confirmed bugs....

@@grantdelosangeles5357 and his perfectionism is what ended the franchise as well. No company can handle this man perfecionism. I learned something with my father that i will never forget, i will try to translate it: “The great is the enemy of the good”. When you reach a good quality job maybe its the time for you to stop as it is, if you try to improve it even more it might cause you harm and trouble, and thats what happened with mgs, his chase for perfection basically killed the franchise. If he didnt set such absurd high standards for his projects maybe we would get more metal gear games. His games are extremely expensive and mgs fanbase is a niche, its not like call of duty that sells millions and thats the main problem. You cant make a game that costs you 100 million if it returns only 100. Thats why mgs died. I hope someday they hire someone talented and no so perfecionist to make new mgs games

@@PedroSavioo Well, I'm trying to say is this, that Kojima is only a perfectionist in this game's development and MGSV's development since everyone thought that there will be no Metal Gear games under him, after MGS 4, everyone on the Dev team was working on this is in perfectionist mode, for it to become one of the Greatest games ever made, it was made as a love and farewell letter to fans that's why clashes are seen with between the leads, (I don't know if this is true, Japanese are apparently perfectionists sometimes), if he was a perfectionist who went out of his way, the Dev team would usually keep him grounded like in MGS 3, when he proposed that the boss 'The End' should take 2 weeks real time and they just said no, and he apparently wanted out, he wanted out of the MGS franchise, and Metal Gear is already a popular game that could possibly outshine COD, and lastly Konami wants out of the Console, Everything they own that is in consoles, will get milked until it's dead by their move to Mobile Gaming and Konami, the Fans, even the Devs know that without Kojima, There will be no new metal gear games, seeing that the ones he didn't direct were... not well received And as for Metal Gear, It's dead, Konami already milked it dry (see: Metal Gear Survive)
@PedroSavioo
3 жыл бұрын
@@grantdelosangeles5357 i dont think mgs is dead because he left. Look at gears of war for example, gears 5 doesnt have cliff ( the creator) and it got a very high standard. If they hire someone good for the job, that loves metal gear and this person accepts the release window planned by konami we could still see a nice mgs. I see kojima role in mgs as a base for mgs. Now fans understand what mgs is and the only thing we need is a good writer and a good director. A boss that knows how to get the best of each employee. And thats it, if this leader knows how to manage time he could get a very well made mgs game. I dont think mgs is dead. If i were to choose where to go i would pick those psp games and make them a big game. Its a start. I wouldnt call them mgs6 of course

That's not really fair to say. I'm sure the majority of people who work in the industry have passion for what they do, even if it's not readily noticeable by the people who play their games. The difference with an entire company and someone like Hideo Kojima is that Kojima has a very singular focus for what he wants to achieve, and he pushes his team to create it. Other teams more likely work through a collaboration of ideas and compromise, and as such, the end result often doesn't feel unique.

@tke992 MGS4 weights like 40gb. It uses dual-layered Blu-ray disk, as of right now, MGS4 may be the only game on PS3 to use a Dual-layered BD. MGS2 & 3 may be around 4-5 gb a piece, DVD-9 (360's format) has like 8gb of capacity. 40gb/9 = 5. MGS4 would take up more than 5 disk for the 360 because some data (game's code to work) has to be put on each disk.

@TheMillo123 the absolute truth is this, "if they haven't ported it by now its just not going to happen." that doesn't say much for next gen though as Kojima already stated that work on MGS 5 has already begun for next gen platforms...
