Hi Bri - You just brightened my day, with your ‘nothing fun planned today’ video...☺️ I guess that goes to proves that a visit with you is the true the attraction and not so much anything you have planned for the day. I’ve never heard of the moon phases effecting dirt amounts, but I can’t say it doesn’t, as I’m not an expert at either moon phases or dirt pile amounts, lol, but that’s a new one for me. That is going to be the ‘talk-of-the-hill’ for chicken coop and runs, when your neighbors around you see it all finished! Thanks for this visit and for bringing the sunshine that is always such a part of who you are Bri, into my home. Do hope all the aches and pain from your fall, has totally vacated you hip and leg and wishing you, Laramie, Karter & Kash a wonderful evening together....☺️

I do a lot of digging and I have found that the dirt settles back into the ground, especially after a rain. And grass grows up thru that dirt just like that dirt has always been there. I have a wheel barrel full of dirt I dug out of my garden and it has settled and pact it’s self and grass has grown in it, so that it looks like my yard, inside the wheel barrel. Dirt packs it self pretty quick.

Easiest thing to do is put the hardware cloth on the panels first before you raise them up Briane and if you had put the dirt into a bucket or on a tarp you would have plenty of sand to put back into the channel . As you put it onto the grass you lose some because it spreads out and that’s why you had less than you should of had and your dad is as the saying goes “pulling your leg” 🤣😂🤣😂

Bri it’s called “earth tides” I found a heavy equipment forum like the earth moving equipment your dad works with and some swear by it….. This is what was posted in the forum: “the moon creates tidal action on the dirt just as it does with water. so does the sun actually. They're called "earth tides".” I googled this: Earth tide, deformation of the solid Earth as it rotates within the gravitational fields of the Sun and Moon. Earth tides are similar to ocean tides. The Earth deforms because it has a certain degree of elasticity; were it perfectly rigid, there would be no Earth tides. So I’m sure your dad experiences it way more than us behind a keyboard…I’d take his word for it.

Moon phases = your dad pulling your chain 🤣🤣🤣 That was hysterical! In all seriousness, the dirt may have dried out which would have caused it to shrink a bit, but if you water it in, it should be the same volume of dirt as when you dug it out! LOL

Great looking chicken run your gonna have Bri !! I hope with the heat y’all get your gonna put out a couple of shaded areas using tarps or something to give the chickens some places to get out of the sun for relief and maybe put in a kiddie pool with 1-2.inches if water they can get in to cool off their feet snd body’s , maybe put a ramp up to get in and another little ramp inside to get out of the pool more easily , chicken’s can handle cold but they get heat exhaustion pretty easily if they don’t have some relief from the sun and heat !! But I know you’re as great of an animal momma as you are human momma and will do your best to make sure they are comfortable as possible !! God bless ❤️🙏🙋🏻🌈🌈

The dirt may have been compact as you dug it out, maybe with a lot of dampness, and when you dug it up it dried out and there was less water in the dirt. When filling the hole up with the now drier earth it doesn't fill as much of the hole as it did when wet. Water makes earth aswell as other substances heavier and puffed up. Just think of a cake you do from powder, when the fluids are added it fills more than the package it came from. ❤❤❤❤❤

Its probably not the phases of the moon, its more than likely because it has rained since you dug the dirt out. The rain just dispersed and washed away some dirt. Although moon phases do play a big role in the oceans tides and ground water levels. My grandma would can sauerkraut and she would say you can only preserve cabbage when the moon is on the rise (sliver to full) and not on a waning moon (full to sliver) water table levels rise with the rising moon and fall during a waning moon. Now i don't know how true this is with making sauerkraut, but i do know that my mom canned sauerkraut on a waning moon once and every jar spoiled instead of fermenting.

Common lore holds that digging during a full moon gives you left-over dirt while digging in a new moon leads to not enough to fill back in; some folks say exactly the opposite. I can't find any science to back up either claim, and even The Old Farmers' Almanac says the phenomenon is untrue.Mar 22, 2016

Bri - that's probably why you don't have enough dirt to fill in the holes - it's all laid out in the grass and you'd have to scrape it all back in the trench again
@theresauhlenhake6962

Your Dad is jacking with you. I think the reason you feel like you don’t have enough dirt is because some of it is already kind of settled down into the grass and and it’s spread out a lot more so you’re gonna lose a little bit as you bring it in personally I would get some stoneand layer it in there too it’ll help the drainage too. Makes it easier to mow. If you don’t have to weed eat all the way around your chicken run just a suggestion. You’re doing a great job, but yeah your dad’s pulling your leg.

Hi Bri. I'm not going to try and explain the moon phases in the comments. I'll just say it has to do with gravitational pull on the earth from the moon. The pull is larger when the moon is full. Plus if it rained since you dug it out, the rain would have washed the soil into the grass. Your coop is going to look great.
@dorenefrank3095

I don't know about the moon and dirt but I had too look it up cause I also was digging holes for plants. Not enough dirt to put back. It has something to do with the before you dig was compact, when you dig, you loosen things up. There's more but that is all I have.

The moon phases affect the tides, whether posts will stay in the ground, and even when surgeries will heal better. Some advocate for planting by the moon and a hair company I know of says cutting your hair according to the moon will do certain things like help with strength or length. The moon phases also affect menstrual cycles. Young women's cycles are in line with the full moon and older women's cycles are in line with the new moon.

If the dirt got dug out and there is grass some will sink into the grass so best to put plastic down to put the dirt on. If rained since you dug the trench so of the dirt was washed away. If was really windy the loose small parasitical of dirt was blown away if you or a animal walked on rolled in or like chickens scratched on it was distributed by your feet in a wider area if all of these happened most likely the dirt you dug out is no longer there. It has nothing to do with moon phases and everything to do with normal distribution and erosion of dirt on a surface. Even the huge dirt pile you have in the cow pen goes through the same process just at a much slower rate because the pile is so big.
