That little hive doesn’t have enough bees or resources to grow. One frame of bees and brood and some syrup can save them. If you don’t do anything their dying, a slow death. Once the colony balances out the queen will straighten out her egg laying.

That's what I thought, but I watched a couple videos that said it still may be a young queen tying to lay lots of eggs. kzitem.info/news/bejne/uKWPsHiHoHV4qKw I hope this is the case. I took them to another yard and mixed them with an unsuccessful 3 frame split. I also added a frame of capped brood. If this doesn't work, I will add one of the queen cells I have being made.

Hi.great video. If a young Queen hasn't straightened out her laying pattern in a week, replace her. A young Queen lays 2to four,generally. Laying workers usually four to seven. The best way I have found to stop laying workers is put one frame in different Queen right colonies. The pheromones stop the laying workers or the hive kills off the laying workers. If someone has a better way. I'm never to old to learn.great bee keeping all.

Hello friend, it looks like you used a deep frame for your vertical queen cells, if you did maybe there wasn’t enough room under the bottom bar of the deep frame and the floor of your hive box for queen cells to hang down. If thats what is happening there then you can put a bar midway on the frame and the bees will build cells on it also. You are doing a great job , well done.
@LiveMoreOutdoors

I removed the foundation and put them under the top bar. I did it again this year and was able to turn one walk away split into three. I was better prepared. This is an effective method for my skill level. I can see where adding an extra bar in the middle would create more room for more queen cells. Thanks for the tip. I just need some more equipment and time LOL! Thanks so much for watching!

Tip : Here in Scotland 🏴 I have an easier way. 👀 Get a Frame of Day Old Eggs. Get your Hive Tool and under Mash all the Cells below the "Egg" you want Drawn down to be a Queen Cell (aka like a hanging Peanut !) Why you ask ? Well if : YOU Choose where each Queen Cell gets "Made" they are easier to Cut or Trim out of that whole Frame of Comb ! 👍 By mashing all those under cells, say by 1/2 an Inch or so : Means that Queen Cell will "hang" kind of "Off a Cliff Edge" with space all around them. All positioned so its easy to Harvest or put a Cell Protector around them Simples. 😎 You can say : Do x6 Eggs evenly spaced across. And then another x6 Eggs say about x3 Inches below the first Row. That "mashing" means the Egg has no Comb, Wax, other Cells around "it" as by mashing I mean, indent the Comb so nothing is at surface level. Get the idea ! 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Happy Beekeeping 2023 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Not messy cutting off Honey dripping Strips from a Brood Frame, that now has huge parts cut of it !?! Indent the Comb instead and the Bees continue as normal. OK you might cut away a bit of Wax Margin just above that Capped Queen Cell. But the Bees fix that tiny Repair in no time. 😉

I get the construction of doing poor man’s queen rearing however you would get a stack of queens as well just by putting a frame with eggs on it into the hive and they would still raise a bunch of queens like in any other colony , I’m not really sure this method is even needed when you can just add a frame with eggs in it. Just something to consider.

Is there a way to tell a young queen from an old queen, in inspections? An example; I got a nuc recently from someone. And this particular nuc wasn't laying like the others. I haven't seen a lot of honesty in beekeepers near me. It makes me wonder if its possible I could have had an old queen given to me while they keep the younger ones for themselves. The only real way to tell is watching the brood pattern and laying and...if there's something else to look for that I don't know of yet?
@LiveMoreOutdoors

If it's a commercial business, I find it highly unlikely they would have the time to this. If it's just a local person, it's possible. He or she could take a poor laying (or worse yet, aggressive) queen "young or old" and pass it off to someone. Disclaimer: A dishonest person could mark them any way he or she wants. If she is marked, you can tell the year she was born. Color indicates the year she was born by the end number. Domesticated queens only live 2-3 years (max 5 but very rare). White = 1 or 6 Yellow = 2 or 7 Red = 3 or 8 Green = 4 or 9 Blue = 5 or 0 For example, A queen born in 2021 should be marked white. The only other way I know to tell the age is if you make your own splits, or queens. From my experience, a virgin queen that has recently emerged tends to be a little smaller than a fully mated/laying queen. I'm not an expert, far from it, and I learn stuff every year; however, I hope this helps you out some. Thanks for watching! God bless.

I cut the plastic foundation itself and took a couple cells on the plastic to make a split. I did that 2 days ago. This would definitely be easier without the plastic, but I think I have a little chance. I looked in the original hive and the queen cells were all open.
@donaldjones3580

You will have to cut the plastic foundation into pieces between the QC's. The lower strip was not made into QC is more then likely not enough room below the frame, strips need to elevated. I Hope You Had Good Luck.

Double or triple egg layen in cells generally points to layer worker bees. yet it could also point to a lazy queen. Either way, the best thing is to requeen and give them a frame of young brood from another hive.
