Mines a 2017 w the big brake package which is dope but it’s a work car and it’s got almost 200k miles on it now and it still pulls great. Kept it very well maintained and regularly had fluids changed but never needed to mess with anything major! It gets way better gas mileage than a cat in any situation too, since mine gets mostly highway use I can see a regular 22-25 mpg depending on what the cruise is at. My Mazda 3 2.5L comes w a turbo and the transmission is the same as the other Mazda 3s. In other words don’t add up the numbers before you assume you need equal Oem “value” to a hellcat. (After all just because a new car has a warranty doesn’t mean used cars don’t right?-the manufacturer specs are geared for this and The dealership markup is nearly 20-30k between an srt and a hellcat, interestingly)….Ironic this video is 2 years old and just now you’ve started making videos about the upcharge in dealerships? Lol. It’s not that big of a deal. Forged pistons, brazed blades on a torque converter, larger sway bars, and a slightly beefier hp90 transmission that actually slips more doesn’t mean you can’t boost a 6.4 reliably at about 7-8psi. Clearly procharger doesn’t mind - they’ve got a stock Jeep srt in red w a blower being installed in a video on their website 😅.

I know this video is almost 2 years old however it’s not completely up to date any longer. A liquid cooled supercharger, long tube headers, upgraded fuel pump, tune and e85 will net you more rwhp to the tune of 740 hp +/- on the 6.4 with all stock internals and stock transmission than a hellcat. The total price to do all that is alot cheaper than buying the hellcat stock.

I know everyone wants power through simple modification which is understandable. But Ive never seen anyone gutting their engine, putting a larger crank in the engine, putting a larger ported cylinder head, larger intake runners, basically building the engine from the inside out. I know they must sell some kind of stroker kit for a 6.4 that can handle boost. I enjoy seeing built late model muscle cars, but they’re all built in a similar fashion. What makes ones car stand out above the rest? You have x tune with x cold air intake and x super charger. Well so does the guy 4 cars over just with a different paint job. I know it’s much more easier to go out drop the cash to buy a hellcat or any other higher performance late model car than it is building your own. I personally stick to the old school type of methods and style, build it from the inside out. All in all that’s my 2 cents. I truly enjoy watching your videos racerX and I’ll always be a huge fan and support of your channel, hopefully one day I cross paths with you here in DFW and finally be able to meet you!

I chose to put a magnuson on my 392 it was 7150 for the kit and I added some extra doo dads like the gauge pod and Autometer Procomp Boost and AFR gauges. I'm not making HC numbers, I am running a safe 6lbs of boost and I did the install myself. 6lbs on a 392 is good for 540 at the wheels give or take a few ponies. My goal wasn't going after HC's. My car is paid for and I love it I love the color which hasn't ever been offered but one time. So for me to get a hundred plus horse more than stock it was totally worth it. But yes if you are going to chase after HC numbers then you are going to essentially spend the difference in price between a Scat Pack and an HC to do it right. You will likely also need to swap out the half shafts ($1400) the driveshaft ($900) and at some point you may grenade the rear diff. The HC really is a bargain for what it brings to the table bone stock. Fantastic video great breakdown!

I think it's a matter of money. You can get 700 or more hp from a naturally-aspirated Hemi. You just have to be prepared to spend MONEY. Breathing is a problem at high RPM, and that calls for long duration, huge ports, and giant valves, not to mention at LEAST 2" primary tube headers if you go equal-length. Weight reduction is next. How much money you got? How bad do you wanna win? Then there's tuning it all. A pile of parts without a Curt Dusterhoff or whoever is just a pile of parts. But it can be done. For most people, the question is, "Why?"

Honestly, 50whp increase would be huge in a car that gives mildly modified ricers fits stock. That and my challenger is already the quickest, and fastest car I've ever owned. I had a 1973 dodge charger 340 magnum back in the day that was a complete dog. Heavy and probably made 220whp max. The 1973 charger was a gorgeous car that I wish I still had, not a scratch on the paint and it was perfect. Today that car would be worth double what my challenger is worth. Still a gutless dog.... lol for you guys and gals who never experienced the original mopars. These modern cars are so much nicer in every aspect. I bought my R/T on an impulse without any research. Another route you could consider is the fact the the Scatpack is lighter than the hellcat, so you could do more weight reduction and add nitrous. Taking 500 pounds off your car is equivalent to adding 100hp to the wheels. So now the Scatpack is making about 585 at the crank. Then add 100 shot of nitrous with bolt on and tune and you’re easily looking at over 650 to the wheels.

I was recently looking to trade in my 2015 5.7 charger for a cheap low-mile base Hellcat, or at least a package-endowed Scatpack, and I ended up with the Scatpack. I've had it for 5 months so far, and I love my Scatpack for what it is, straight up. I loved the Hellcat speed, the supercharger whine, but theirs a mortality factor to it.. for some people, and to any wrecked Hellcat owners, just know some cars are fast enough..it's bittersweet.

Good commentary on chasing the numbers game. Reliably. Many owners either don’t know the risk of adding a blower to blowing up pistons, and why that happens. Or they do it anyway. 5.7’s and 6.1’s are better at tolerating boost than scats. Scats are great cars. Almost traded my 5.7 in 4 years ago for one. Decided to send my kid to private school instead. And modded my 5.7 🙂 too.
Adding Charger stat from car and drivers comparison test of the Kia Stinger. Tested 2019 Charger ScatPack 0 to 60: 3.9. 1/4 mile: 12.3 @ 115 All these cars still put out good numbers for the weight and size they are.

Actually the widebody scat pack does 12.1 @ 112 quarter mile. I have a 6 speed not as fast as the auto but I have been giving other 392's the business mustangs turn corners when they hear and see the beast. Hellcats are loud but I think the 6.4 is louder just my opinion or it could be because mine is a 6 speed.

@@johnwilliams2378 mostly all 6.4Ls perform the same as I seen some also hit that 12.1 that's non widebody, but we just got these stats as a source quick source of references...those 305s help in many cases with that extra grip..the 1320 even better with its specific setup....these cars are pure monsters and alot of people "dog" them from behind a screen without ever being in one.

I respectfully disagree. So many people are terrified to add any boost at all to the 5.7 and 6.4 Hemi's all because of a few crappy tuners and shops that weren't educated on what they were adding boost to. We bought my wife's 2017 Charger Daytona 392 for $45K. We purchased a ProCharger D1SC tuner kit and bought the injectors and spark plugs separate. We installed the ProCharger together and took our time installing it to make sure it was perfect. It took a Saturday and Sunday. All together we spent $7500 with tuning from Andy Moye. We then bought JBA 1 7/8" long tube headers for $640 and installed them ourselves. This is not very difficult to do. That's a total of $53,140. That's cheaper than a Charger Hellcat and the insurance is cheaper. She currently has a little over 20,000 miles and at least 40 - 1/4 and 1/8th mile passes on the build. The car makes over 640 whp @ 6.5 psi and her best E.T. is 10.75 @126 mph with 1.52 60ft. She drives the hell out of her car and does so daily. If your good with an almost mid 10 second car the 6.4 Hemi is reliable and safe to boost as long as you don't get greedy with it. And, in my educated opinion the ProCharger not only makes more power on this stock platform than the Whipple supercharger but it is also a " safer " way to go. The quickest 1/4 mile stock Hellcat that I have seen was running 10.87's. Most run in the 11's in stock form. Another point I'll make is that if you know how to drag race on a track and you know how to launch a car your driveshaft and rear differential will be fine. We added the Per4mance diff brace for added protection.

It sounds like you have a really nice setup on the car. I'm glad that you haven't had any issues with it and the fact that your wife drives it is awesome. I will say that the way a whippled car drives and the way that a procharged car drives are very different. The power comes on very different so the 60 foots you are getting are very respectable with that setup. I have definitely seen quite a few people grenade their stock shaft so I do feel that it's a weak link. Sounds like you have a really fun car.

Had scat before Hellcat, and yes just save up and get what you want right away. You can put 5k into a hellcat and you're at 1000 even if you make a scat as fast as a stock Hellcat, it just does not like boost. Just pay for that strong motor up front if that is what you want to get into, save yourself depreciation that I lost out on lol. I still very much enjoyed the scat while I had it, as you say it is kind of a "enjoy it for what it is" platform.

I own a Hellcat redeye wide body and a scat pack. To be honest if you are thinking to spend the money to get more horsepower say 200 it will not be at the wheel even stock Hellcats are 640 whp, but main thing I believe is the fact you can’t put the power to the pavement. It’s so so hard to get the Hellcat to stick the tires to the pavement for the first 3/4 gears 0-60/70 mph. Too much hp even with the proper setup; wide body , tires, differential, stabilization, and a few more parts. I am talking street use, track is so much more different, change out to slicks and the grip is night and day. I love both but this is right in one of his videos for daily or even straight fun the scat pack wins. And I lovvvveeee my Hellcat but I agree with him.

Yes and no. It depends on where you start. In my case i found a low mile 2011 5.7 for 10k. Say i forged it/supercharged it and upgraded the drivetrain for 25k. I'd be into it for a total of around 35k, which is still half of a new hellcat, or maybe around scat territory. So what it really boils down to is do I want to upgrade over time or go sign papers for a scat/ hellcat and drop the money on a higher loan payment every month. But to each there own.

zachary clarke while that is true. You can find used hellcats in the 40s now. So you wouldn’t be spending that much more to start. And would have more power and more potential right off the bat. But I guess it is just a matter of what your goal is and how much free cash you have. I know it would take me YEARS to come up with $25k.

@@redkeyinuse4754 Only thing about a used hellcat is not really knowing how it was treated. I know if I owned one I would abuse the hell out of it lol. Unless I knew the owner treated it more like a collector piece Id be scared of the longevity. Don't get me wrong though, if I had the money for a new one laying around I would probably go that route just for the warranty. But making a car payment as big as a mortgage just doesn't sit right with me either. Plus buying my charger for so cheap has allowed me to save the 25k needed to do all the mods I want anyway.

I've got 690 to the wheel for about 17k. Drop the supercharger, insert nitrous and do all the work yourself. Problem solved. Fastman throttle body, ported intake manifold, long tube headers, mmx max effort cam, upgraded valve springs, hellcat lifters, mmx forged internals, arp main and head kits, drop in fuel pump upgrade, nitrous wet kit, nos launcher nitrous controller, driveshaft, transmission upgrade, unlocked pcm, programmer, and then dyno and tuner time when build is complete. None of that is too hard to install so long as you have tools and are mechanically inclined. I could push it maybe another 100 to 150 hp more on the nitrous but I would lose all the reliability and more than likely end up blowing something eventually. As it sits its reliable as the day I bought it because it rolls around every day with much less than 690. With the nitrous controller I can roll the hit in as well as set all the safeguards. If the afr gets above or below set points it shuts it down, if the throttle isn't wide open it shuts it down, if rpm gets above or below set points it shuts it down etc. If you do it correctly, nitrous is safe. Nitrous doesn't blow up engines, people do. That being said.... it still isnt much off the price of a used hellcat. Love my scat to death, but if I were to do it again in would buy a used hellcat. It's easier and hellcat has some room to grow before it needs major upgrades.

Modding a SP to keep up with HC is a waste of money aside from minor exhaust mods and maybe intake. People focus on the WHP but they forget you need to keep it cool with radiators upgrades, fuel upgrades like injectors/pumps, driveline upgrades so you don’t flip over, and transmission costs as you wear out parts faster. Coming from a ZL1 and back to Dodge, 650 is a lot for the street and 480-500 is just right. The Scat Pack is the Goldilocks car in the lineup and miles of smiles straight outta the gate. Enjoy your ride however you want to roll

My .02 is that if you build the car you have the pride that you built it. It was always part of the fun. “The experience” if you will. I looked at a ZL1 and a SP with the intention of it being a fun car. The SP was cheaper but that wasn’t even taken into consideration. What made the choice was the back seat since my kids like the “fast” car. Never even thought about the cat (maybe I should have) but ultimately I got the car for fun with the intention of making it mine. I do not have the goal to be as fast as a cat. What always drives me is to get better than my previous self. Today I make x power so tomorrow I want y hp. In the end, I will have a car that is mine and that is unique to me. Hopefully the other result will be similar to the trans am I used to have and be an insane car that was known at the races (back then it was street but now that I’m older and with kids it will be track).
