I know that this is an old video/hack, but I just wanted to say "Thanks" as it is exactly what I was looking for. I mixed pencil graphite with methylated spirits, soaked the glove's thumb & forefinger tips in the solution and then let the glove dry completely. Seems to work perfectly. Even if it needs re-doing every now & then, it is a cheap and effective.

How often does it need doing?
@murphyau08
2 жыл бұрын
@@drjasper100 So far (1 year) I've not had to repeat the process as the graphite/carbon gets trapped in the leather. I guess if your gloved get wet (rain) repeatedly, the graphite might wash out but that hasn't happened to me.

Will wood glue and graphite work?
@murphyau08
Жыл бұрын
@@bertgroothuis2419 I have never tried wood glue but I doubt it. The graphite/solvent soaks into the leather and this allows the graphite to makes contact with your skin. Wood glue would sit on the outside of the glove.

Freakin-A...excellent video. After watching your video I bought a spray can of Jig-A-Loo Quick Dry Graphite Lubricant for about $7.50 USD. Sort of the same solution you used but kind of already mixed up by the factory in the spray can. I tried it on an old pair of gloves first. Sprayed it on and went & had dinner. 30 minutes later tried it on my Samsung Note 4 cell phone. Works perfect. Fast scrolling, pinch, zoom, web surfing, all good & fast. My test gloves were a pair of gloves that had heavy insulation in them so typing wasn't so great but the Jig-A-Loo graphite coating worked perfectly. It's black so it just gives the fingertips that are sprayed a shiny polished look, as if you polished the fingertips with shoe polish or leather preservative. Pretty much invisible. If you do this on a new pair of gloves (preferably black, graphite is black) it will be absolutely not noticeable. I don't know how long it will last but I think it will work for quite a while because the Jig-A-Loo is like a paint. If the effectiveness seems to start to lessen it only takes a few seconds to squirt a bit more Jig-A-Loo on the fingertips. In the next few days I'm going to do my own video on this and post it on KZitem. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the further experiment / follow-up video Ozzie... & props to JJ as well!! Curious to know if the Graphite soaked all the way through and touches the skin as well.. I suppose it must.. JJ's seems to use the Soap to make it soak through.. I'm going to try this too.. on my huge, full cuff, winter riding gloves.. Thanks guys!

Well I didn`t have any power graphite - so I chopped off about 2 inchs of my carpentry pencil - took the lead out - ground it up in my mortar and pestle stone bowl to a powered ( washed it out with soapy water ) - mixed it with some Isopropanol (70% strength ) this drys pretty fast - put my bike gloves on wet the fingers I wanted to use to control the phone - dried the glove finger tips with a hair dryer - about 2 to 3 mins - wiped the excess of on my old black jeans I am wearing ( a bit of black comes off) - and what do you know it my gloves work perfectly on my phone - excellent !!! what a cheap fix - will see how long it lasts ?

This is going to be great when using Google maps as a satnav on my iPhone. Whilst on a route i have created, to make sure GMaps doesn’t start to change my beautifully planned route, I add ‘waypoints’ every now and then to my route to keep it on track. The only problem with this is: when reaching one of these ‘waypoints’ the iPhone screen requires a ‘tap to continue’. Which I could’nt do with my gloves on, so I would have to stop, remove my glove, tap continue, put on my glove and off i go again. A little dab of this to my left hand glove...and....sorted!
