"A LARP can't function with just the directors." Best quote ever

I've been wanting to start my own LARP here in Texas, but I've never even been to a real LARP before. The closest thing we have to a LARP here is the Renaissance Fair and that doesn't operate like Twin Masks at all which is a darn shame because, while the Ren fest is super fun and immersive, it's very hard to get into character with soccer moms and dads in bermuda shorts buying soap. This video is a huge help to me, but I still gotta go play Twin Masks at least once. It seems like such a good time. We need LARP here in Texas ASAP and I gotta be the one to make it happen.

@@anicatcandy1 I'm all the way up in Caddo Mills which is about 4 and a half hours away, but I've heard that some Larpers commute out of state for a good LARP so I'll definitely consider it! I had no idea there was a LARP even in the state of Texas. Thank you so much!

Oh wow, there's actually a lot of Larp in Texas. I just suck at doing a proper google search. My first set of searches turned up nothing, but the second set pulled up so much Larp. I'm so sorry to all the Texas Larps out there that I just blatantly said don't exist because y'all are there and y'all are awesome. I've gotta go join some for sure.

I am glad I looked at this. I am trying to create a LARP here in my community. There are so few out here in the Great Plains. I have to travel 200 miles to get to any large events. Often these events have really big hurdles of participation, such as having to attend a 3 day weekend before attending a side event. I understand why it was designed the way it was, but after consulting a schedule, I literally had conflicts every weekend for all 2019. I am a parent. One of older highschool and middle school kids. Many LARPs do not allow under 18, and I understand why. Problem is, that means LARP is now time away from my family. I am trying to construct a kid friendly LARp, a Nordic style, in the vein of Chronicles of Narnia, meets Changeling: The Dreaming. I want an mix of a world of high fantasy, and an urban fantasy world. Like Goblin store clerks, and faun mail carriers. I am having trouble knowing whaylt works and what doesn't for this. Many family friendly LARPs are boffer fantasy LARPs. I want to creat an all inclusive game for many of my disabled friends many that have serious health issues that running in a field with a sword is a no go for them. I also really want to create an LGTBQA+ friendly environment while also being friendly to the middle school and up age group. That is the balance I need to find. Any suggestions?

This is so well timed! I was thinking about starting a game when I'm a bit older for my LARP friends because we are too young to go to others around us and we could do like a low immersion version (ha that ryhmed) and then we could improve it when we actually can run it like a proper game if we can.

This is exactly what I did when I started! I was 15 when I got into larp, so most games were off-limits to me and instead me and my friends banded together and wrote our own! It's... rocky but so worth it and so much fun

I Agree, History for an Event or even a full World is really time intense to come up with and also to remember. I have been to Events with literal Bookshelves with History about the World. In the end the immersion is brought by the Staff and returning Players. All Hail the Staff.

I'll be always thankfull for all the videos you have made. Since 2018 I have been learning about LARP so I can make a community in my country (Chile) because there is no LARP organizations in here. And your videos - and Momo's - have helped me with a bunch of ideas and information to make this dream come true. Thank you so SO MUCH 💕✨

Looks good, interested to see more. Only suggestion Id make (and take it for what its worth from someone who hasnt done anything like this before nor seen all the background effort put into making this), Id also have you read the question as well as showing the text on screen. Cuts out that moment of dead air and for people (like myself) who listen to things in the background, we dont miss the question. Iv been thinking of starting up a larp for a while now, Ill be consuming all these videos with gusto!

LARP recruitment is primarily word of mouth, people join your game because they hear good things about it from their friends. So, I recommend removing excuses for people not to try it out. If you have a good game, they're come back, and tell others. So... 1) Run a good game. 2) Never charge for full time NPCs 3) Have a generous price reduction for first time players. (I recommend free.) 4) Take photos. (If your game looks good, and there are pictures of it, your players will share those.) 5) Have good systems in place to help new players understand your rules, answer questions, make a character, and get introduced to the game. 6) Have benefits to current players for recruiting new players such as reduced frees, added build, or whatever else you'd like to offer. Games grow over time, but usually start with a dedicated staff team telling their friends to give it a shot. Hope this helps!

What about recruiting? How do you get a large healthy playerbase? I've created a larp in the past, and we invited all of our friends and they invited their friends... But then we hit a roadblock. We maxed out at 20 people and nobody knew anyone else that was interested. We tried fliers and advertising on Facebook and at ren faired, but none of that really worked out very well.

Are you still accepting videos for meet the characters? If so, I have questions. Can I do it if I'm 13? Can I do it if I'm not in a proper game but I play with my friend. Does the costume matter? Mine is horrible.
