Another nice thing about this size saw is that you can get blades from just about any manufacturer that will fit it, the 45 inch blade is standard across most of the deep cut portable band saws. I run Makita, Milwaukee and Dewalt blades that I have found on clearance for around $4 a blade.

I bought one for a specific job - cutting 65mm2 powder coated steel posts to length once stood. I have the small cold cut circ saw, which only cuts to 50mm depth & this was cheaper than the bigger cold cut circ saw. It is a bit big to carry around all the time, but it is so handy. If I have it with me in the van I use it almost every day. One of those tools you never knew you needed until you got one. Holding the stock firmly & resting it snug on the guide plate are key to success. I've cut custom brackets out of angle in minutes, it cuts stainless all thread so clean you can run a nut straight onto the cut end, It will cut quad gutter to length (better with the 24TPI blade) and I used it to help cut the guttering in around a 150mm PVC downpipe. It's not that heavy, just big & a 2.5Ah battery will keep it going most of the day. The guide plate can mark surfaces. I should probably stick something a little softer over it..

I love this thing, it's a monster! I just got mine about 3 weeks ago and it's amazing! And it's a good addition to my small 18V DeWalt bandsaw. Before I owned this kind of tool I never knew I needed it. And now I own three of 'em. I enjoy watching your content over here in Germany. Straight forward, honest and simple high quality reviews - keep it up!

After using this saw for about 6 months now, it's great. I have a variety of blades and choosing the right blade and having a sharp blade makes the cut way faster. I use it mostly for ductwork, even a piece of 12 inch duct can be squeezed in where you can cut 1/3 of the pipe and quickly finish it off with snips with no waste. Basically the higher number of teeth per inch, the thinner the metal it is designed to cut.

Had a DPB180 since 2013. Fantastic saw. I use it to cut off problem hydraulic cylinder shafts and really anything to heavy to take to the cut off saw. Even used it to cut some 2" plate once during a fire ban. I frequently cut 1045 round bar 2" diameter because Im to lazy to pull a length from the steel rack. Probably use it 5 times a week. A couple of things though, I have yet to come across any after market blades and its a different size to the American brands so Makita only. Also I do use a little cutting aid like a tapping oil or spray. I will say that everything that was cut was with a WAY to coarse a pitch blade. I use a 24 tooth 95% of the time unless it is round bar 1" or bigger and it starts easy and the teeth last way longer than the demo even with carbon blades. It is also a shame that makita doesn't have enough threaded bosses that could securely mount it not like a Red as they do and many use them as a small band saw at home once fitted to a frame.

You need a finer tooth blade for thin metals. 2 to 3 teeth touching the metal at any time on thin stock and it won't jam and will cut like a hot knife through....stainless box tube? 😀 same rule of thumb for thicker metals which means a coarser blade to maintain 2 to 3 teeth at thinest cross section Love your vids. Informative, comical and of coarse down and dirty commentary. Love it! ❤️

hey good video. as a builder of residential homes I could see myself and crew using this for cutting rebar during foundations. I would've liked to see you cutting through 16mm hi-tensile deformed rebar. Also, how well does the stand integrate and how versatile is it?

Hey mate, thanks for another superb video!! Been toying with the idea of getting the 18v version, would really like the Stand (196326-7 ) aswell, making it more usefull (2 tools in one), but have you seen the prices?? 2-3x as much as the saw itsself!!!.... They must really want us to buy the big, vertical bandsaw, on stand... I already have a vertical bandsaw, for wood. To convert it to cut metal would be a large project.... Just another annoying thing about Makita... things that make you go HMMMMM

The aluminium in the states 😂😂😂
@fredericl6190
Жыл бұрын
Why do Americans call aluminium « aluminum » ? Because of a mistake of an American journalist, who visited the first factory making this metal in America. When he wrote about his visit to Shawinigan, situated in Quebec, Canada, he misspelled the name. Since then it’s « aluminum » for the States only.

When using the portable bandsaw you have to keep the shoe firmly pushed against your work surface or else you’re going to tear your blade up
