@Tools & Stuff. Thanks for the very thorough and great review between thee two Makita recip saws. You covered all the important points. I bought the Makita 18V X2 recip saw and my only complaint is that I got the one that doesn't have the adjustable shoe. Bummer. I don't know why I can't get a recip saw that has both a adjustable and articulating shoe? It's like each company gives you one and not the other. But this 40V Makita looks like they give you both? Hope you and your family stay safe and well.

People seem to have such a big issue with a simple concept, makita made this line exclusively for the guys who need every last drop. That's why they aren't dropping the ltx line, it's a addition not replacement. Not everyone is supposed to move over to it.

@@SammyInnit it's literally the makita public statement dude, and it what dewalt did with their flexvolts lineup, also it's obviously first gen concept so it's not going to stay in its current form. I have no intention of buying any of them past maybe the SDS drill and a grinder but the plan isn't stupid, you just don't like the fact that they are setting up a lineup separate to their existing one. But then again if you don't need it you don't need to buy it and since they are keeping the 18v lineup it won't bother you

not as much of a fun upgrade as the other gear like the angle grinder, I think i'd still buy the 6psc kit if it came to it just because i'd probably get all the gear at some point. can i make a suggestion for the impact driver test to try some more delicate tasks like wallmates/gypboard anchors? its all cool and all the gear can sink stuff like 100mm landscaping screws but It'd be nice to see how it can handle smaller tasks. I had the milwaukee gear for sometime and I always felt like it was gonna just tear the screw or anchor right out of the wall. I definitely prefer the amount of control makita gear offers. appreciate these reviews as I'm sitting on the fence with a post up my ass wondering whether or not to buy the stuff.

What I am saying here probably isn't going to be the case for all of the 18v x2 tools... however with the 36v recip saw featured here. But it might be possible to create an adaptor (does not exist yet, but other types do). To adapt the older tool to take one of these newer 40v batteries... which sounds silly but for in the previous video, in which you demonstrated that with another tool the 36v model (aka 'x2') discharges it's 2 batteries at different rates. So that might be helpful to some. Who have a mixture of different battery platforms. And charging of a single battery is advantageous, plus the extra effeciency of those 18650 cells. Lets be honest here... the 2 tools as shown seem to be more or less the same as one other. Barring a few minor changes. Not much different. [edit] I suppose a teardown would be helpful. To determine whether there is a centre tap on the 36v model in between the 2 batteries. With any kind of intelligent load balancing. Or if it's just simply a copper bridge to put them in series. Also a teardown might shed some like on the other differences. Like why it catches / jumps at startup. Well whatever. I'm not saying you have to teardown any of these tools. Just that it might reveal something else interesting that we didn't know about them.
@marshallferron

Yeah it would work on some tools but some of the 18vx2 tools like the rear handle have the batteries on either side of the tool so the balance would be off with one battery. Hopefully they'll make the power supply backpack compatible with both.

I've got the 36v Makita and its awesome. really good on battery life and puts the single battery 18v sawzalls to shame. Compared to that new 40v I think I will stick with my 36v. The 40 just isn't enough of a jump over the 36 to justify the cost and the switch to a new battery platform. Even the other 40v tools don't seem to quite have enough improvement for me to justify buying any of them over the latest 18v tools. I think i would prefer the new blade latch on the 40v sawzall, because then I can switch blades no problem even with winter gloves on. The new light location seems dumb tho. Its right where all the chips are flying out and blocking light, or melting the light if its hot metal shavings.
