Before buying this sander I would use a rotary sander kzitem.infoUgkx3Pc2vLXfcgM5oIpF1iYcIWyFhHUC-G6v and didn't see the need for a belt sander. Boy was I wrong. this belt sander does the job quickly and gives a professional finish to the wood work.

What kind of production and granularity do you use with this machine to avoid scratches?

Helpful demonstration. I believe that lack of swiftness for something like this could lead to inconsistency. Based on the video I would rent a floor sander.

If the cost of the 9403 is too much for some people there is the Makita M9400, not as much power 940w instead of 1200w but same size and closest match to the 9403. In the UK the M9400 costs around £140 now and I've had mine a couple of years with no problems. The 9400 also comes with a bracket so it can be used as a bench sander. Worst sander I owned was a 3" Bosch, the bearings didn't last long.

I got a 9403 for £60, dust channel was blocked with magnetic metal filings and the front roller was bare with no rubber left. £15 for new roller and 10 mins to learn how to clear the dust channel! Btw I'm going to be using mine to level and finish a pallet wood floor in shed conversion going through 4 grades of paper. I got 8 sq m of heat-treated (no chemicals) pallet wood, denailed for £80. This wood is very good quality underrated. Very solid wood. The only issue some may have is it's not calibrated but I don't mind a bit rustic, it just requires meticulous sorting into similar widths before laying. I pre-drilled holes and manually nailed in some chunky brads/ovals. Will be varnishing with Lakeland zero VOC wood varnish.

Ok, I see what I was doing wrong: Same sander but was starting off with 60 grit and getting nowhere. 36 cuts like butter ;-) I'm doing 500 sq ft of red oak.

I’ve had good luck with an oscillating sander but they are super heavy to get in and out of your vehicle, especially a passenger car. They will help you at the store, but you’re on your own at home. I’ve done it by myself but you are just asking for back trouble. I’ve used a belt sander but I lack the patience to use it in a room. It would probably only be an hour, but I just can’t summon the will.

How many sanding belts would it take to do a 10x13 room?
@daw162
2 жыл бұрын
not many as long as you start coarse enough. Like 36 grit - you need something that will strip finish first without loading. After that you can pretty much go two steps (like 60 to 100 or 60-120 or something if you'll have the discipline to let the sander work out the scratches. If you miss any of the follow up scratches here or there with all of the sanding in line, it won't be a big deal. If you miss large amounts of anything, it'll show and be ugly). Use a platen on your sander and keep it moving with the coarse stuff if your older floors will soften with heat - they'll clog the belt in that case and if they do, the finish will cool and reharden on the belt and bond to it.

You could try a voltage regulator to adjust speed, I did that once for a saw and it worked quite well. Depends how smart the electronics are or if it's just a dumb feed to the motor.

How about unplugging the tool before changing the belt?? Hope you keep counting your fingers . . . Seriously, if you're going to put stuff on KZitem as an example, you should follow simple Health and Safety precautions, or someone may sue you!
