When did the chainsaw start being used on trees? In 1926, German mechanical engineer, Andreas Stihl patented the first electric chainsaw to be used for logging purposes. Three years later, in 1929, Stihl developed a gas-powered chainsaw version; however, Emil Lerp, founder of Dolmar chainsaw company, had already begun manufacturing gas-powered chainsaws in 1927 When was the 1st chainsaw invented? 1830 The first chainsaw was designed by German orthopaedist Bernhard Heine in 1830. He called it the osteotome, from the Greek osteo (bone) and tome or tomi (cut); literally, the bonecutter. This chainsaw, as well as many that followed, were used for medical purposes What is the oldest chainsaw brand? Stihl is the oldest chainsaw manufacturer in the world, with its first electro-chainsaw hitting the market in 1926.Jun 16, 2018 Who invented the first chainsaw and why? In the late 18th century, 2 Scottish doctors, John Aitken and James Jeffray, developed a prototype of the chainsaw-familiar today in the timber industry-for symphysiotomy and the excision of diseased bone. The design of the chainsaw was based on a watch chain with teeth that moved through the use of a hand-crank.
