I have all Makita tools and I agree. Also why isn't it 18v?
@NameNaameNameeNaamee

@@mikerosoft1009 It's 12 V because 18V batteries are waaaaaay bigger and heavier. I didn't believe it until I held the laser and the 12V battery in my hand, those things are smaller than a pack of smokes! An 18V battery would as big and heavy as the laser itself, and the point of those cross line lasers is to be light and small, so you can sneak them into whatever place you need them to be in. 12V just makes a lot more sense here, plus a laser doesn't need a lot of power, it will run 10 hours straight with a 2Ah battery. If that's not enough for you, Makita sells a very affordable quick charger which will charge both 18V and 12V, which is what I carry in my bag. So no big deal, especially since in the brushless age, I rarely need to recharge on site anyways. Street price is about 30 bucks under the Dewalt, no big difference there, yes. But the Makita has it's pros, being smaller, lighter, more durable (those exposed lasers on the Dewalt are bound to suffer), it offers better visibility and longer range both with and without a detector, plus it has the dots which can even be seen in direct sunlight which can be a live safer (the Makita also doesn't need a pulse mode for the detector which always make the lines that much harder to see with the naked eye). All in all, it's a very good laser indeed with best in class visibility. I can recommend it.

Why didn't they make 18v version? Urgh!
@NameNaameNameeNaamee
3 жыл бұрын
Because 18V batteries are HUGE and HEAVY in comparison and would offer zero benefit, since the Laser runs 10 hours straight on one 12V 1Ah battery already. An 18V laser would be twice as big and heavy, which would completely be beside the point on a cross line laser.
@micssticksnpipes
3 жыл бұрын
You are missing the point.... everyone has the 18v batteries. Having to buy a whole new battery at dif voltage is a pain in the arse which will then not work with all other 18v tools, you could switch to any other platform instead.
@NameNaameNameeNaamee
3 жыл бұрын
@@micssticksnpipes I am not. Crossline lasers have a distinct purpose and place. Putting an 18V battery on them and making them double as big and double as heavy will render them useless for about 50-70% of what they were designed for. That's why these types of lasers typically were equipped with AA batteries despite the world having shifted to 18V years ago. Having those lasers on a 12V platform now is ideal, since it combines runtimes you'd expect from an 18V system (proper green lasers will last only about 3-4 hours on 5AA batteries, THAT is a pain in the ass) with the place and weight savings of AA batteries (you probably never used the 12V batteries by Makita, they are super small and light. Worlds apart from the 18V batteries). You can buy a dual field charger that will charge both your 12V and 18V batteries like already mentioned above, so you won't even be needing to carry two chargers if you opt for a 12V battery. Plus the laser will run 10 hours straight on one 2Ah battery which costs about 35 bucks. And if you work so much and so long that you just don't feel comfortable using only one battery, you should earn enough to not care about buying a second battery for another 35 bucks. Also, if you really don't want to buy a 12V battery since you don't need that laser to be small and light, you can run the Makita laser via an adapter from an 18V battery as already was mentioned above. There really is nothing to it mate. It might not be what you WANT right now, but it simply makes a LOT of sense to the rest of the world.

What a reply!!!! Hahahaha Sorry I don’t have room in the van. I’m sure sales numbers will speak for trades people like me. Sounds like you are from America. What I’m saying is unless it’s on 18v I wouldn’t buy one and probably go for stabila. What else is that bat going to run if I don’t have any other tools for it. No thanks
