While reading tribute on behalf of his brothers and sisters at his state burial, the late Malawi Vice President Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima's younger sister Elizabeth Mwanga consoled his widow Mary Chilima and their two children Sean and Lily Chilima, assuring them that they are family, and will also have their support. She also called on the state to conduct thorough investigations into his death.
Elizabeth Mkandawire-Mwanga (her full name) described Chilima as "a happy, loving and kind person".
She said Chilima only spent 13 years on earth with his mother Elizabeth and 23 years with his father Henderson.
Mkandawire-Mwanga said Chilima was destined to become a global leader and loved his country.
Speaking on behalf of Mary Chilima's family, her uncle Zililo Chibambo said Chilima was a patriot who loved peace and urged all to refrain from violence.
Mary Chilima's mother, Rosemary Kamoto, has paid tribute to her son-in-law as a humble person who freely interacted with everyone regardless of age.
She thanked the Malawi Government for the assistance rendered to the family. She said the family will continue praying for the souls of all who died in the plane crash last week.
She thanked the Catholic Church for honouring Chilima with several Holy Masses.
