@kinkajuu1

Well they did handle it, by making racism as a concept absurd and nonsensical. Example, the grandmother is racist and Lois tries to get their black friends to act as black stereotypes to spook her away. But none of them were the stereotypes and as such their attempts at acting that way were seen as forced. That is extremely well handled by reversing the narrative of using racism as more than an undesirable trait, but a physical weakness to a seemingly invulnerable and evil woman. Implying that it was a good thing for the main characters that she was racist. In order to empower the characters enough by giving them kryptonite.

I love how this (seems) like a genuine argument between two friends. One is defensive and the other feels hurt. It's so rare to see the real conflict that shows in the 90's/2000's captured.

I especially like the fact they are total bros, like the episode where the poker crew talks about relationships and casually ask Hal how many times a week he has sex. “14” Abe stood up to the guffaws and said “trust me, I’ve been on vacation with this guy, he’s underselling himself.” That’s a bro who’s kinda tired of Hal’s good sex life but also jealous. 🤣🤣🤣

Just smile and take the likes, never do this. 😂 *Original comment a Month Ago* I love how in Hal’s heart, even as angry as he is, he would never suspect his friends of racism. His only concern was that he was being laughed at for being poor, one of his few insecurities, that even then, doesn’t bother him too much. That whole family lacks in the shame department, which is why we love them.

I do the same thing with South Park. I always remember it debuting in 1996 because I was in 6th grade, but it didn't actually air until 1997. But I do remember that our middle school tried to outlaw SP shirts and iron-ons and backpacks. I'll never forget how they made one kid turn his shirt inside-out because he wore a South Park shirt with Cartman on the front, with a caption that said, "Yeah I want Cheezy Poofs".
