@@wayfaringstranger4362 an Oscar is an award of recognition that kinda paves the way for more opportunity in this world for black people, if it’s white mans approval it’s also a real highlight white people will look for in ones record. So you are right, but for the black community they are also necessary because of the amount this world relies on awards for recognition.

@@wayfaringstranger4362 the fact it didn’t get oscars is precisely one of the things Malcolm X and others like him where trying to highlight. Lack of recognition and respect for our work, thoughts, and actions. Things black people create need to be borderline masterpieces, with or without oscars, to be found. Or in some way promoted by white media for it to be seen. It’s a world of endless contradiction and needless repetition.

Have just watched Spike Lee's biopic of Malcolm X and is listening again, for the umpteenth time, to "Ossie Davis" heart-rending AND heart-stirring eulogy of Malcolm. What an eulogy! It's one for the ages. Lest we forget his life, and memory, but above all The CAUSE for which he dedicated himself and martyred. May Brother Malcolm's memory lives as long as humanity lives! Long Live Malcolm X, Long Live. A Luta Continua as it is not yet UHURU!!

Us whites needed him as much as his fellow blacks. He held up a mirror to white America & called us out on our brutality & hypocrisy. He spoke truth, plain & simple. Our elders wound us by omitting Brother Malcolm from history class, instead propping up a white washed version of MLK (while leaving Malcolm as a footnote in the best case senario). I didn't seriously learn about Malcolm X through school, thankfully my Grandma loved him, and helped teach me his wisdom. In 2025 it'll be 60 years since his assassination by the dishonorable Elijah Muhammad & the cowards in the Nation of Islam... and listening to his words you would've thought he wrote them yesterday.

Thank you for posting this. This eulogy is the greatest of all time, gives me goosebumps everytime. Malcolm X was and is a beautiful hero. Malcolm was a shining example of how to be a force of good amongst the darkness of humans. Malcolm was a flawed and troubled human, who submitted himself to God, never stopped evolving and, "didn't hesitate to die because he loved us so.". Spike Lee is such a phenomenal talent, it would be great if he would stop tearing down his own people, saying Tyler Perry, who came out of the dirt and is using his power to elevate his people.

Here - at this final hour, in this quiet place - Harlem has come to bid farewell to one of its brightest hopes -extinguished now, and gone from us forever. It is not in the memory of man that this beleaguered, unfortunate, but nonetheless proud community has found a braver, more gallant young champion than this Afro-American who lies before us - unconquered still. I say the word again, as he would want me to : Afro-American - Afro-American Malcolm, who was a master, was most meticulous in his use of words. Nobody knew better than he the power words have over minds of men. Malcolm had stopped being a ‘Negro’ years ago. It had become too small, too puny, too weak a word for him. Malcolm was bigger than that. Malcolm had become an Afro-American and he wanted - so desperately - that we, that all his people, would become Afro-Americans too. There are those who will consider it their duty, as friends of the Negro people, to tell us to revile him, to flee, even from the presence of his memory, to save ourselves by writing him out of the history of our turbulent times. Many will ask what Harlem finds to honor in this stormy, controversial and bold young captain - and we will smile. Many will say turn away - away from this man, for he is not a man but a demon, a monster, a subverter and an enemy of the black man - and we will smile. They will say that he is of hate - a fanatic, a racist - who can only bring evil to the cause for which you struggle! And we will answer and say to them : Did you ever talk to Brother Malcolm? Did you ever touch him, or have him smile at you? Did you ever really listen to him? Did he ever do a mean thing? Was he ever himself associated with violence or any public disturbance? For if you did you would know him. And if you knew him you would know why we must honor him. Malcolm was our manhood, our living, black manhood! This was his meaning to his people. And, in honoring him, we honor the best in ourselves. Consigning these mortal remains to earth, the common mother of all, secure in the knowledge that what we place in the ground is no more now a man - but a seed - which, after the winter of our discontent, will come forth again to meet us. And we will know him then for what he was and is - a Prince - our own black shining Prince! - who didn’t hesitate to die, because he loved us so.”

The Same Government who had him killed? The part where Ossy Davis says "They intend to write him out of our history" is the truth, Malcolm X isn't a figure they could re salvage like MLK, so writing him out is their preferred method, and Malcolm X is a man who unites far Lefties and even Conservatives, his critique of the rotten System especially the Liberals is alive and well today.
