I rescued an adolescent dove from the clutches of a red tailed hawk in California yesterday. It's not injured but can't fly very well yet. So he/she is hanging out in my hotel room and listening to these sounds. Seems to be extremely interested

I love doves 🕊 When I was little I found a beautiful ring neck dove, he white with brown spots ( I’ve never seen another like it) all beat up in my front yard so I caught him & put him in a cage. After nurturing him back to health I didn’t want to release him so my dad ended up building me a big bird cage for him & I bought him a white female dove so he wasn’t lonely. They ended up having lots of babies year round. I loved the sounds they made. We named him Cooey because he would always make that mating call.

I just remembered this one time as a kid we had a collared dove nest in the gutter above my parents' bedroom window while we were renovating and all of us had to sleep in there. They came back the next year. For five years. I don't think my sleep schedule has ever recovered.

How can u tell the difference between the genders?
@camodave7490
8 жыл бұрын
This is the only way you can tell between the male and female, the male has the stronger louder call, the female has a slightly lower softer call, both sexes are alike share incubation and brood the young as well as feed them.

I live in Colorado and hate these collared doves! They are an invasive species and are currently pushing out populations of our native doves, the mourning dove. Mourning doves are much more gentle and they don't scream their faces off all day, and have a prettier sound when they do coo. The collared doves make noise all day long, and since they are more aggressive and breed more cycles per year than the native doves they are taking over. Apparently collared doves made it to the US via Florida after a hurricane and escaping from a pet shop. They then began to spread throughout the US...they do taste great to eat and it is always open season on them because they are a pest/invasive species! I began to notice these obnoxious doves about 10yrs ago and they are increasing in numbers every year that passes.
