The reason I started a curved swords build was to:
1) Have another character available for the DLC
2) Try defeating Malenia using the worst parry in the game
The parries with the least active parry frames are the ones done with curved swords, thrusting swords, medium shields and claws (5 active frames at 60 fps, 2-3 at 30). The parry done with curved swords does a flowing wrist motion that looks pretty cool.
So I decided to use such a parry against Malenia to test myself, but that also reminded me of the story of the Blue Dancer tarnished that taught Malenia her sword skills, so instead of simply punishing the same easy move everytime, I tried to imagine how the Blue Dancer would fight, and I came up with a new playstyle I never used before against her.
I used a very risky playstyle, tried to react and improvise on the spot while spacing her out just outside her range, just enough so she would keep her aggression up most of the fight. It was very tough, but it resulted in one of the best looking fights I've ever seen performed in this game. It is by not means perfect, but I'm extremely happy with the final result.
I used to think Malenia had some unfairness to her, but this playstyle helped me realize there are very reliable methods to punish her, force her behavior and counter most of her moves with the right approach, if you have the patience to learn it and keen observation, using low damage +19 weapons to top it all.
Along some of my best Sekiro videos, this is one of the best fights I've ever had the pleasure to experience.
