As a married black man in his early 30's, I feel like it was a missed opportunity to promote therapy for men. Yes, you can vent to your girl about a lot IF she's mature and provides a safe space to do so. Even if those two things exist, there are still topics that you just don't air out with HER because it could change the dynamic of the relationship. If you're fortunate to have mature male friends that also provide a safe space, you can vent to them about those topics. I would caution in always bringing up serious topics with those friends because you could change the dynamic of the relationship to the point where they don't really want to talk to you anymore. This is where therapy comes in. Depending on where you're at in life, you may not need it at the moment but as soon as you recognize you may have deeper issues going on, that's a sign to consider therapy.

you're one of the lucky people to have a partner mature enough to be able to handle your venting. his perspective is his perspective. it can't be right or wrong, it's based on his experience. There are a lot of people who have dealt with people not mature enough to handle venting, whether it's not being a good listener, being the person they were talking about who automatically inserts their own experience while the other is venting, that happens to a lot of people. I understood what he was saying, he could've just worded it a little better.

It sounds like you guys mean complaining instead of venting. Venting is getting something out that you desperately need to in order to maintain your mental health, the NUMBER ONE person you should be able to vent to is your partner. Complaining on the other hand is overbearing and irritating to EVERYONE, we need to stop drawing these lines between ourselves and women. We are human, we are social animals. Venting and sharing are healthy and bottling things up or keeping yourself from sharing all of yourself with your partner is just hurting yourself for no reason. If you feel like you can't vent to your partner, or that you shouldn't, that is a problem.
