Anthyllis hermanniae subsp. melitensis (Maltese Yellow Kidney Vetch). This was grown from a seed, then in the ground and then in a training pot with the 'escape root technique'. It is endemic i.e occurs only on the Maltese islands. The golden yellow flowers are fragrant attracting insects especially bees to collect nectar and also pollinating the flowers, which then form seeds which easily germinate. Flowering is in the early spring and can cover the whole plant. This shrubby kidney vetch is known in Maltese as 'Il-ħatba sewda' and in summer sheds some of its leaves (summer semi-deciduous).
