It comes of growing up without chairs or Western style beds. Sitting and working and sleeping at floor level from birth keeps you flexible. It's considered crude to use your hands to help you stand up, they just rise. Same in all of Asia.

My great-grandmother told me stories of how she and her twin sister got everyone in their house ready for the day growing up. They also lived on a farm, and their mother died in childbirth when they were 12. Because they were the oldest girls, they had to help with cooking and cleaning. My great-grandmother would take care of gathering eggs and cooking some while her sister made bread before heading to school. I appreciate her stories even more now as we heard about these folks and their daily lives.

Amazing. So, this is the roti we have heard so much about! I would like to know more about the geography there. There doesn't seem to be too many trees about so I wonder where they get the wood? I have heard other villagers say they have no electricity and cook with wood. If every family cooked two meals a day, where would they get the wood? I live with a partial woods in my backyard and a standing old forest a half mile away. If the folks here cooked with wood like that we would not have much to eat and the wood would all be gone in a year or two. What happens if they can no longer get wood? None the less, I would like to try that roti cooked just as it was done here. Unfortunately, my wife is gone now (RIP) and I would probably burn down the house. Thanks to now Haji Mustafa for inviting us to his meal.

Looks delicious and taste would be different than using a confection oven , or a regular oven, or micro wave machine. What about an outdoor cooking space made of brick that uses branches to light up to cook like meats, Roti, other great dishes. Thank you so much for showing how make and cook roti. Have a wonderful bkess day. 🙂

Someone get him some Citronella oil. There are a couple varieties of lemongrass native to Pakistan so he might be able to make it himself if it's locally available. Spread it around or burn it as lamp oil, and those flies will likely avoid the area.

Why not use solar for cooking? Using wood will spent lot of trees while your place need it. They should plant trees not chop it.
