Little bit of backstory to this song: Mamamoo has been together for 7 years now and they have become one of the biggest girl groups in Korea. In Kpop 7 years is an important milestone because most contracts end after that time so company/label and artists have to decide how to move foreward. Often Kpop groups disband after 7 years and the members continue their careers individualy. This luckily didn't happen to Mamamoo. One member (Wheein) left the company but she made sure that they can also continue together as a complete group :) So this song is basically them looking back on the past 7 years, their struggles, their success, their friendship, reflecting their current status in live and as a group and also addressing the uncertainty on what will happen in the future. The two harmonizing in the end are best friends since school so them singing "One this beautiful star, the two of us shared the same dream" is very meaninful :)

This song was about them as a group. The last lyrics that were harmonized by those two women (Wheein and Hwasa) hit deep for the ones who know. As it’s true especially to them as childhood friends, who shared their dream and went to auditions together.

When you've got voices like theirs that carry such emotional and musical depth the genre matters as little as the country of origin or the language they sing in. Mamamoo are generally considered to be the best female singers among current girl groups and tho in this song her part was more singing or melodic rap and was unusually minimal Moonbyul is one of the best female rappers. She's the main rapper but she's also a singer. In addition to the personal meaning of Where Are We Now you discussed, the song is also about Mamamoo taking stock after their 7 year journey together as a group who believes they were destined to be best friends. Mamamoo has been around since 2014 so there are lots of MVs and 100s of hours of live performances available - Mamamoo is best when they're live. They've done other gorgeous ballads but Where Are We Now is the first time they released a ballad as the main single on an album. Their pop dance tracks are also great and they've explored a wide variety of genres from jazz, swing, r&b and hip hop to bossa nova, latin pop and reggaeton. They're known for their versatility and musical diversity - people say MMM can sing anything and can write a song about anything (they've done crack songs about their height, dad jokes, and being bored, among others). They also surprise us regularly by doing remixes or rearranging songs in completely different genres for year-end award shows and the live rock versions of their pop hits are some of my favorite performances. If you want to hear more MMM vocal masterpieces check out the Paint Me MV, the live version of I Miss You on the tv show Queendom, or any of their 14 covers on the tv show Immortal Songs 2, where many of Korea's best singers compete by doing new arrangements of classic (immortal) songs. My faves are the ballad Backwoods and the old Tom Jones song Delilah but they're all spectacular. There are also two live medleys that showcase their vocals while providing a good intro to MMM's original songs and Immortal Songs covers: the Dingo Killing Voice vid, which includes snippets of songs from their debut single Mr Ambiguous in 2014 to Aya in 2020, and the Immortal Songs Medley, which was filmed at a MMM concert in 2017. Hope you enjoy getting to know Mamamoo, one of the most fascinating and talented groups in kpop. 😂

They have 300+ songs in 7 years, and most of them are good songs. 300 SONGS. Can you believe it, it’s insane.

If you only react to one more song, the Killing Voice video gives a nice sample of various awesome songs. If you would consider a Mamamoo Monday, all the above are great suggestions. Paint Me and I Miss You have so much feeling! 🥰 Iirc Immortal Songs is a bit of a pain with copyright, but the immortal songs medley of their 4 seasons concert is safe. Pianoman is the first song I heard, still one of my faves. Like Decalcomanie it's jazzy, their best style imo. Windflower is another awesome song 😍. Finally Egotistic if you like a sultry latin vibe.

when they filmed this music video, they were directed not to smile until that last scene because the song is abt their journey as a grp and they wanted to emphasize that being together is when they’re happiest. in kpop there’s this 7yr curse where a grp disbands once they reach that point bec they’re thought to be too old to compete with the newer grps. this is even more true for girl grps. they released this on the month of their 7 yr anniversary just to reflect on what the future might hold, but they also announced they’re extending for another two yrs. where are we now is such an interesting way to get introduced to mamamoo but it’s also a good representation of what they’re known for in south korea which is VOCALS. if you want more ballads from them, i’d recommend listening to their Killing Voice video where they sing a medley of their greatest hits live. they also have the immortal songs performances which is a medley of old songs they covered for a music reality competition where they’ve won 3 times.

Actually you were 100% right about the rap aspect. That rapper is Moonbyul the most credited female rapper of the 3 generation os Kpop. But she is an excellent vocalist too. Mamamoo is easily the best vocal group of kpop. You should check their "Killing Voice" and "Immortal song" videos.

This made me tear up. I am a fairly new fan of Mamamoo but I have grown to ADORE them. This was the last thing I expected your channel to have on it but I am SO GLAD that you reacted to this! It's basically their latest comeback but there is a danger that they might never have another because one member did not re-sign with the company (last I heard anyway, so I could easily be wrong). There is a lot of information to unpack. The group formed in 2014 but two of the members have known each other since middle school; they both had the same dream so they purposely went to become trainees together. Those two even have matching tattoos on their necks. There are hundreds if not thousands of videos on the internet so you can find out about the members, from straight-up guides to just some shorts where these ladies are being silly/ crazy. Their debut song is much more cheery than WAWN. It is called Mr. Ambiguous.

wheein didn't re-sign with the agency but she's still with the group until the end of 2023 (when all four have the option to re-sign again). basically, the group stuff is still handled by their agency, the other 3 members have the agency handle their solo stuff but wheein is doing her own thing with her solo stuff, whatever that may be. unlike other artists that had made somewhat similar moves in the past, wheein made sure to get a contract stating she would continue working with the group until it was time for their renewed renewals (also, on the matching tattoos, they've got two sets. the neck ones you mentioned as well as a pair on the backs of their ankles that say 'resonance')

Checkout MAMAMOO Paint ME and Starry Night if you want more ballads like this, You can also check Wheein "Goodbye" or Hwasa "LMM" for other ballads. But they have 7 years worth of songs as a group and soloist so there is a lot of songs that you may like from them, even as a metal fan! Also they did a rock cover of their song Gogobebe!

Hiiii! I’m a MAMAMOO stan (moomoo) and I just found your channel. Haven’t seen the video yet but by the title I think you’ll probably like Dreamcatcher, they’re a 7 member girl group (also from Korea) and they have kinda metal/rock vibes in their songs. About MAMAMOO, this song is for their 7 years anniversary and it’s their first ballad comeback (like real comeback because there’s also Paint Me). They’re known for their amazing vocals. But they’re all talented up in different thing… I hope you keep reacting to them 💕

Yes, Mamamoo is known as vocal queens. They have vast discography with wide various genres. Thirteen albums & several solo albums. Yes, the four members are also a remarkable soloists with succesful solo albums. I might suggest you check "HIP" in case you want to give another reaction to this "not your everyday kpop" group. Thanks for your reaction.

IMO, Hip is not really fit for metal-head as a first few MMM songs. As a metal-head myself, I should always advice people to check out the vocal-focused song first, such as “I miss you”, “Decalcomanie”, “Mr. Ambiguous”, “Paint Me”. Then when you get to know the group more, we get to the fun songs, Hip, 1cm, Um oh ah yeah, ect…
