So is mambo the same as salsa on2?
@CaptainSalsa
3 жыл бұрын
No and yes. Salsa On2 is the general definition for a style created by Eddie Torres. This is a simplified version of Mambo to numbers. Mambo uses the conga rhythm - 8and1 23 4an5 67, while on2 is danced to numbers 123 567

Yes, this is Guajira but not Cha cha cha. Cha cha is not Guajira and Guajira is not Cha cha cha. You can do Mambo and use 8and.
@jjjj4075

@@CaptainSalsa I disagree. Chachacha and guajira is the same thing. In fact, "guajira" results a bad term because it means " Person from Cuba who lives and works in the field or who comes from a rural area" and it is sometimes used for referring to a cuban person. The steps you using there are form chachacha (1-2-3,-chacha or 1-2-chachacha).
@CaptainSalsa
3 жыл бұрын
@@jjjj4075 "GUajira is a rhythm and chord-progressions; Cha-cha-chá is a dance that is most associated with the Guajira rhythm, and it is also a musical arrangement (characterized by a chord-progression that does not qualify as a Guajira, Guajira-Son, Son, or Son-Montuno), and usually accentuated by a guiro and campana. To say that Guajira is not a rhythm OR that the Cuajira and "Cha-Cha-Cha" are the same is not accurate, though it is a common misconception. Look at the back of the vinyl records of so many Afro-Cuban artists from Cuba from before the revolution. If they were the SAME, then why do some songs say "Cha-Cha-Cha" and others say "Guajira" or "Guajira-Son"? If they were the same, then there would be no distinction. They are NOT the same BUT they are close cousins! Again, Guajira is a rhythm and chord-progression; Cha-Cha-Cha is a dance associated with the Guajira (as well as the Guajira-Son among others) and it is also musical chord-progression - though not a rhythm." from my dear friend Josue Joseph aka "La Epoca"

Sorry but the correct counting would be 1-2-3_-5-6-7_, wher "_" means an eight-th more which represents a pause with the leg/step. So to say: 1-2-3(-4=pause or stop) 5-6-7 (-8=pause or stop). Or 1-2-3stop-5-6-7+stop1-2-3+stop... This is my opinion on teaching the rhythm at least. Counting 2-3and4... doesn't sound correct to me.

@@DallasInWunderland Maybe in theory. But in practice there's no difference. When I try to dance to this music, it's Salsa on one. If you say that's on two (like he is counting with the music - same steps as before but different counting!), then try to dance with this music salsa on one!

Pachi Galia thank you. every comment is valuable and allows us all to learn. this is Guajira my friend not cha cha cha. this lesson is for very beginners. 8and1 is a settlement for Mambo not for on2. one thing is the problem here. The editor has badly connected the music for me. I dance "in tiempo" and the music flows "contra tiempo"

@@CaptainSalsa if you are implying that what makes Mambo similar to Salsa is just the timing then you are simply wrong. I'm a musician and South American and referring to guarjira as a reference when teaching Salsa is simply crazy. My personal collection of Salsa is of over 500 songs selected from a world of Salsa music, fast slow and very slow. Using a guajira to teach Salsa? It would be good to hear other latinos if they actually heard of Guajira. What I do know for sure is that some people use the word Mambo to advertise themselves as someone who knows what others don't, this is that Mambo is a sophisticated form of Salsa reserved for the advanced dancers and instructors. This is just rubbish, and Rumba as well as Mambo have little to do with Salsa
