Real nitpicky point, but there are several 645 cameras that take 16 images on a roll of 120 film; Contax 645 and Fuji GA645zi to name a couple. I have no idea why you only get 15 with the Mamiya.

What does he mean two stops underexposed?
@shahn78
5 жыл бұрын
It means to let in less light than what a light meter tells you is the "correct" exposure. Example: if meter says f8 @ 60th sec, you would underexpose (meaning let in less light) of 2 stops by either setting the camera at: f16 @ 60th (by only closing the aperture by 2 stops) or f8 @ 1/250 (only increasing the shutter speed). Unlike film, on a DSLR, you can decrease the ISO to make the sensor "less sensitive" Refer to a f/stop or shutter speed chart to know what's a full stop, 1/2 or 1/3 stop. Any Qs, msg me.

The M645 Super lightmeter is perfect and you have the choice between Average, Spot, Automatic weighting (depending on subjects contrast) with the right dial on the prism top, the left dial is for expose compensation. 35mm panoramic back never existed for this camera, only regular 24x36 mm on 135 film

I watched this in 2020 when I was looking to buy a 645 and now I have the original m645 (not the 1000s) but I wanna upgrade to the Super. Did you have any issues with reliability? I’ve heard it can have issues with shutter and winder. I don’t plan on getting the auto winder but shutter wise it makes me a bit nervous to veer from fully mechanical. People say the Pro fixes that but I don’t like the design as much

Willem Verbeeck The 120 film was originally designed to give eight 6X9 negatives (8-on-120), to give compactness and greater film economy, cameras were made with two red windows giving 16 6X4.5 negatives (16-on-120). With a more modern camera like this, there's no need to use red windows to locate the frames, but Mamiya (along with others) decided to take 15 exposures on each roll, to give greater spacing between the frames. For mounted colour transparencies it is all very well, but it can make negative filing tricky: a negative filing sheet made for 120 cut into four lengths would easily accommodate each length with two 6X9, three 6X6, or four 6X4.5 as long as the 6X4.5 is shot as 16-on; but each strip of Mamiya 645 negatives, if as four frames, would be too long to fit comfortably, a factor to consider.
@StreetGrain

The Mamiya 645 Super is prone to the mirror box damper snapping off, rendering the camera inoperable. Some internal plastic parts they used in the 80s are now deteriorating. I recommend the Mamiya 645 Pro or Mamiya 645 ProTL as they used newer plastics.
