I still watch the AG Show every day. It reflects on a simpler time, and a more honest environment in this country, and the world! Sure, there were disturbances, wars, and uneasiness, but there was a different undercurrent than exists today!

Mr Tucker had a change of heart when he realized that the people of Mayberry NC were not the backward bumpkins that he was led to believe. This meant that he wanted to stay around for a little while longer than everyone else had expected him to do.

This has always been my favorite episode. Just a classic story of slowing down to enjoy a simpler and more relaxing time in life. It’s so well done showing a nostalgic look of a peaceful and restful small country town. Loved Barney and Andy’s singing too.

Amen! My dad died last week, and there’s been lots of looking at old family pictures. It just brings back precious memories. There’s something peaceful about small town life, and I don’t think it’s the same in the city.

This episode is a microcosm of a 3-year portion of my life when I lived in a small town after growing up in a much larger city. For years I could not take the place and wanted out. I felt just like Mr. Tucker - particularly when he lost it over the phone lines being tied up so the two women could “talk about their feet!” I desperately sought a job back in the city, finally finding one. But in my final months in the town, I gradually felt more comfortable there and learned to appreciate the niceties of a slower pace. I went the same path as Mr. Tucker.

I grew up in Nashville TN, and traveled most of america in my early 20's working on the road. It was always fast paced, and city life for the most part. In late 21/early 22 I was forced to move in with my aunt and uncle in Burnsville MS. It was slow, for the first few months I felt absolutely isolated from everyone. Then slowly I learned just how lovely that can be. No phones ringing unless it was an occasion. SImple slow life, and ...honestly it lasts longer and feels nicer. There is a peace there thats hard to understand unless you've felt it.

Another great example of why I LOVE KZitem!! When this episode is shown on MeTV, the "goodbye" scene is heavily edited--only Aunt Bee is seen waving goodbye (in the MeTV version) before Malcolm Tucker jumps out of his car and "convinces" Andy that Wally better double check Tucker's car--the "goodbye" shots of Opie, Andy and Gomer are not shown. Have any other fans of the show witnessed this??

The ending that I remember is where Malcolm Tucker is rocking in the chair on the porch with his eyes closed holding an apple that he has peeled in one continuous peeling. The camera moves in to focus on his hand holding the apple. I wait for this scene every time; but, they usually cut the episode short and we don't get to see it.

I never saw this episode. Because I never really liked the whole show. I could Not "identify" with any of the characters. Actor Andy Griffith is Not the "saint" he portrays. And, I always felt Aunt Bea was too self-righteous. (She almost qualifies as a Lancaster County Penna. Mennonite hypocrite.) But, it is obvious from this short clip, there is a great and genuine display of "love". (A truly American film.) As symbolized by the bag of food. And the penny, given as a child's innocent, sincere token of good luck and best wishes. Don't you just hate it when you have to "eat crow" and "humble pie". But, I never refuse, because a better person emerges.
