This jam brings memories of me living in NYC early 80’s hip hop culture and the Boogie down Bronx the birth place of Rap. The graffiti on El trains and memories of Webo pant, belt and dance at the Fun House, Gotham West and Broadway 96 open bar with Slow Gun fist , White Russian etc,

Lot of people may or may not know this. But hip hop did not start out with rap. Rap at the time was it’s very own art form. Hip hop is and was pop music with a street edge. Because us city kids listen to both pop nyc pop radio and underground street music. This was our art form. It was just a natural marriage for hip hop and rap to be one. As we all went to the same clubs. The real marriage was in February of 1983. When the Latin quarters became the first nyc club to play all hip hop and rap music. And so it started. And nyc dominated that art form. And the rest of the country followed.

Such a shame that NY saw the graffiti trains as vandalism. The first hip hop tune I ever heard. That 808 at the beginning is fab.
