At one of its most basic levels, Agile is all about managing the "triple constraints"; time, cost, and scope. We fix cost by stabilizing teams. We fix time by doing our work within the constraint of a sprint, or sprints. And, we strategically vary the scope to achieve our objectives. But, you have to know the size of the backlog and the velocity of the team because, based on those variables, you can begin to derive the amount of work you’ll be able to get done during the sprint(s).
