A common mistake made by foreigners when bowing in Japan is to press their hands together as they do it. But as far as I'm aware, the only times when Japanese press their hands together are before meals and after meals.

Thank you so much for leaving a comment! Yes, it would be usually before and after a meal, or possibly at shrines and temples!😊

I think this mix up comes from Budhism. There is also the selfless aspect of Zen Budhism and conversation in Japan and knowing the two you can see that they are deeply intertwined.

This channel is becoming one, if not one of my favorites, and I've only started watching it a couple of days ago!!! I've haven't spent much time in mainland Japan, but I have spent a combined two years stationed in Okinawa. Please keep the videos and lessons coming!! Obrigado (arigato)!

I think this is a wonderful idea for a series of videos. Knowing a few phrases in a language is better that knowing none. It shows that the person has at least some respect for the culture. Maybe you can do one or more for common phrases that a visitor might need.

Please make a video about the history of Yakuza. Also, I have a curiosity, if the Samurai people joined and carried forward the Yakuza after they lost their power and privileges Post-Meiji Restoration?

“You shouldn’t bow as you look at the other persons eyes” are there people who actually do that? Can you imagine how uneasy this makes you feel, just intuitively? 😂

It must be hard for any Japanese citizens on autism spectrum to keep a job. Formal and professional language in the workplace in english is difficult not to misspeak but I'd imagine it'd be even harder in Japanese. I'd be curious to hear more about how learning how to pick up up on social cues in Japan might be different, everything seems so subtle.

So, it's not about business things, but what about sitting bow? When you are sitting on the floor, put your fists behind you and bow before person you very admire. Is it still in use or it left only in historical movies?

in the second phrase, why is the first two kanji cencored?
@aeternusvotum

It's acutally not censored but the way to write (blank) in Japanese. The sentence roughly means "I'll be going to (blank) shortly." So you can put anything in there :)

There is nothing that I know of in English, that says you can'say "goodbye" to you boss.

I have spoken English pretty much all my life and we really don't have a formal way of saying goodbye, maybe Thank you for your time? But even then, mostly it's just goodbye or nothing.
