It is surprising to me how many educated people are ignorant about mental health issues. There was a video yesterday about a child with Schizophrenia and the comments were horrible-people were saying that he needed a beating or better parents. I'm glad to see CNN talking about these issues. It's badly needed.

Howie is so right. I've been struggling with OCD ever since I was a kid. I never really made anything of it because it wasn't really a big hindrance to my life. But as I got older, I've noticed I started creating new rituals for myself which drive me crazy. I don't have it as bad as Howie. But I do get very compulsive with some of the most stupidest things. For instance, when washing my hands, I have to grab at least 4 or 7 pieces of paper towels. Because I like those numbers a lot. I have to wash my hands in a certain rhythmic motion. Also, if I hear something funny or just a clever comment, I tend to repeat it over and over out loud compulsively because it makes me feel at ease. There's plenty more I won't get into. I'm 22 and I'm gonna start speaking to a behavioral therapist. Point is, this is a real problem and should be treated seriously.

Ompmovies you posted this 7 months ago- It's very brave of you to admit to yourself that it is causing you some grief and even braver to actually pick up the phone and reach out for help. I hope you did decide to start treating your disease and can see some progress there. The sooner we take control, the easier it can be. Good luck to you ! Hope you're well !

Yes i understand. I have rituals with my hand washing. I have to wash in a certain pattern and a certain number of times. If people bother me in public i have to repeat. I literally missed my entire lunch because people bothered me. On e lady i had to yell at her to get her to stop. I work at Walmart. They will ask questions while I'm washing my hands in the bathroom. I tell them they have just entirely ruined my lunch. Why would they talk to me. Its ridiculous. You can obviously see i am in a routine do not bother me. I can't take off my vest til i wash my hands. Ugh. These people. Its frustrating to love this way because others cant understand to leave you alone.

It's kinda funny how Mandel at that time had the "post-therapy euphoria" syndrome: once the therapists show the roots of your problems and you start to accept (NOT CHANGE) who you are, you feel the urge you've to tell the rest of the world about this "miracle". I just laughed at 2:39 - That moment is priceless.

If a man you are open up on having mental health issues it will lose you friends, it will kill your career dead in the water and open you up to ridicule. If as a man if you have an issues for your own good keep it to yourself. I've learnt from bitter experience the consequences of opening up...don't do it.

For a lot of people getting meaningful treatment for mental health is almost non existent. Trust me I know. How does one begin to heal and repair their life when your whole world comes crashing down around you? Where do you even begin? To try and not hide this problem is very difficult to say the least, When you let the cat out of the bag you find the people around you start to disappear. I feel for many including myself mental health is a dead end street with no light at the end of the tunnel. When you get to this point hope is nothing more than a fantasy. If you care about mental health then please advocate for access to treatment for this so people like me can find the help we are desperately looking for. You can not reach for a life preserver when there isn't one.

Obsessive compulsive disorder. As an example, you wash your hands daily, but someone with OCD might have to wash their hands a certain amount of times or else they just shut down. It has to be done for them to feel accomplished for the day, to feel good. Etc. Some are more extreme than others.

Different???? Actually people with mental health issues don't enjoy being "different" it's fucken painful and there's a reason there needs to be a label to it because people treat them like a normal person when there suffering in silence! There needs to be an END to stigma and I'm talking stigma like the one you just posted here!!! Learn the fucken FACTS, you don't know wtf it feels like. Why don't you expirience your arm bleeding and continue on your day or life like that, well that's what the brain feels like when it's suffering, it's sad how people like you treat others, no wonder there's suicides and people that don't feel cared for or understood because world fucken BULLIES! LEARN THE FACTS BEFORE YOU JUDGE.

Just because someone has mental health issues DOESN'T mean they are a killer or harmful person, actually most don't want any harm on anyone, they just don't know how to handle there issues and it is extremely painful for them! If you knew OCD than you would know that OCD people actually have extreme compassion, sensitivity, and are scared to hurt a fly! Not all mental health issues cause people to be crazy, but mental health issues could co occur with anger, and if they do have intense issues it's because there not getting proper help so that could make you go crazy when the most important part of your body as a human is the mind and it's playing tricks on you! Also depending on upbringings, trauma, being bullied etc! If your arm was fucken bleeding and you didn't get help how the fuck would you handle it, would you not act crazy and scream for help??? You fucken would, well that's how the brain is and don't try to tell otherwise, know the facts before you say shit! Also you have no idea what it's like living in the hell of your own mind when all you want is to be normal, do you think people want to be on harmful medications the rest of there life? No they want a way out, help, and a cure, but unfortunately doctors just prescribe there shitty medications that don't even always help, and it's nearly impossible for these important humans to get into therapy when there is long wait times! Think back to the bleeding arm how would you feel waiting on that?!
