Wow, you two are amazing. What you're doing, the art you are giving us is very, very precious, thank you. Your art, your message, your notes, your words, your melodies, your instinctive pauses are beautiful and wise. Bless the road you travel!

Head was hung low And your sandals, much older As the record spins, time tiptoes back Bones on a thread, far from your shoulders Stitch in the seam between the earth and the sky You're wearing the soul of a coalminer's daughter Down in a hole singing your song A kick in the wind, back in some holler Patching up holes in the setting sun We are the ones that came by the needle Stuck in a groove cut by your hand Wrapped in a cloak and safe in the shadows A cavalry's arc casts over the land Tracks in the south, and the hit of the silence The kiss of death, then the palest blue Seventh hope that grows for to warn us Morphine girl and the sorta truth We are the ones that came by the needle Stuck in a groove cut by your hand Wrapped in a cloak and safe in the shadows A cavalry's arc casts over the land
Absolutely Outstanding I’m hooked on you both. I’m type once I hear one your or any song i ware it out I loop it until I know every word of lyrics. Your music is like no other I’ve ever heard the commonality how the lyrics that I can relate to in my own life. Situations I’m in my late 60s I have indulged in almost every genre mostly rock, and how I regret not really diving into bluegrass/folk music the years of same music different artists I’ve wasted. Thank you for being You

0:08 I discovered this gem by tossing and turning on my phone. I should give myself a pat on the back for it, since that's what hit all the buttons, which led to this song, but I couldn't have done it w/o Mandolin Orange. Definitely the best song my sleeping body has ever found, so this is special. Haha. Seriously digged all their stuff after this.

This is my best effort. A couple words I can't be sure about] Head was hung low, And your sound was much older, But as records spin, time tiptoes by, Bones on a thread fall from your shoulders, Stitchin' the seam 'tween the earth the sky. You're wearin' the soul of a coal miners' daughter, Down in a hole, singin' your song. Or kickin' the will(?) back in some holler, Patchin' up holes in the settin' sun. Chorus: We are the ones that hang by the needle, Stuck in a groove, cut by your hand. Wrapped in a cloak, safe in the shadow, Of Calvary's Arc cast o'er the land. Cracks in the sound, And the hiss of the silence, The kiss of Death and the palest blue, The seventh horse that rode forth to warn us, Of Morphine Girl and the Sword of Truth (chorus) There's a poetic conceit going, with a record playing in the background, giving a double meaning to words like "needle" and "groove." "Cracks in the sound and the hiss of the silence" refers to a record playing as well. Also some possible religious/biblical references: "Calvary's Ark," is new to me, but I'm almost sure that's the lyric, and it looks like it has meaning in Christianity. There are only four horses in the book of Revelation, but one of them carries Death. There are seven seals, though, and the seventh is "silence in heaven." *These could also be fiction references. "The Sword of Truth" is a fantasy series by Terry Goodkind, and "The Seventh Horse" is a story collection from Leonora Carrington. "Coal Miner's Daughter" refers to the Loretta Lynn film, quite likely.

The "and" in the third verse is probably a "then." It makes more sense that way.

I love this song and video but haven't heard it live anywhere. Probably for a good reason. That brown haired girl with those dark circles under her eyes and the lyrical content and imagery delivered by these two take me somewhere I already know to well.

It too serious. I do not like the way he sings and plays. I do not like his appearance, his hair, his sadness.
