Good idea bringing neighbors together through mangoes

What a sweet connection to make with your neighbors. I love how you want to use the universal love for mangos to create community connections and relationships. Beautiful 🥰 What a lucky lady to have you as her neighbor offering to graft her favorite mangos onto her seedling tree. 😍 Our house is finally PENDING SALE, so if all goes well, we should be heading across country within a few weeks. 🙏 Looking forward to sharing a love of mangos and all things related to growing them and other wonderful fruits. Although we will be settling in the Central West part of the State, we will gladly make the trek to meet you and bask in the glory of your trees one day soon. I can hardly wait to get there! 🥰

I had my first lemon-meringue-mango this year from truly tropical. It was amazing. The flavor did have a citrus overtone. But as you mention: It brought back memories as a child having an orange creamsicle ice cream from the ice cream truck. Even to the pine flavor of trying to get the last drop of goodness from the popsicle stick as I ate around the seed. As I ate around the skin (which anyone that eats lemon-meringue-mango must do!) had a pleasant candy-like flavor of a meiwa kumquat. Satya, thanks again for an enlightening video.

Thanks. I have some commenters here who have fixated their palate on Pickering or any certain mango for years and won't change it no matter what. I am so glad you taste with an open mind, i agree with the intense and complex taste this year and may be it was because we had a dry couple months from March until June when mangoes were ripening.

Out of all varieties, Lemon Zest is the top tasting to me. Sweet with some acid and hint of citrus flavor. The best of the best. Waiting next year to taste my sweet tart mango. I heard it's also good. Regarding Lemon Meringue, I thought it came from Burma/Myanmar not Thailand (like he said in the video).

Yes you are right, sorry my mistake, it is from Burma, not Thailand. Peach Cobbler to me had a depth, brightness and mixture of flavors, a complexity that LZ failed to provide this year. But Peach Cobbler is hard to determine when to pick to get this peak flavor. Sweet Tart is a crowd favorite, but it could easily go from being an intense flavor explosion to a simply sweet ‘southeast asian’ flavor depending on it’s ripeness . Glad we have all 3 trees and all seem to start producing only after 3-4 yrs in ground.

This year my Pickering, have been really good, the coconut component of the flavor has been very pronounced, in previous years it was barely detectable, at least from the fruit on my tree, Pickering is a good 1st tree, it has a flavor that everyone would like, the tree is very precocious, but not vigorous, so it is very easy to manage, of the three mature mango trees I have, Pickering is the oldest tree, yet it is the smallest in size. both my Edgar and Cotton candy were planted years later, yet are at least twice the height. Pickering is not finicky about the weather, it flowers every year, and produces a lot of fruit. they are from good, to very good, this year they have been very good for me. Although I don't have Lemon Merengue, I really love them,

Yes! Ours is exceptional this year, probably because of low rainfall the taste is concentrated and complex. We tasted so many great mangoes this season, so our bar is pretty high:) and our Pickering is among the best of the best. It surprises me how a variety gets a label of a “smoothie mango” and people wouldn’t change their perspective no matter what, makes us come back to the same varieties over and over trying them grown with different cultural practices, and especially growing our own…and they’re always different, always a new experience:) maybe we should start giving mango flavor profiles a year, like wineries do)))

This tree comes from Zill High Performance Nursery but they’re wholesale only. There are lots of reseller of Zill trees depending on the area you live.
