This guy is quite literally living my dream of being a self made farmer that grows my two favorite foods; avocados and mangoes lol I always thought it was odd how similar the two fruits were being the Pearish shape with a large seed in the middle you have to cut around but also growing on the tree similarly. Makes me wonder if they’re related and why I love both of them so damn much. I just sprouted my first mango seed and am so excited to grow it. Unfortunately I’ve tried avocado seeds but never get past the first stage of the tooth picks halfway in a cup of water as the water starts to ferment before the seed even sprouts :/ I really want my own fruiting mango and avocado trees but hopefully this mango seed is a good dna that fruits a lot as I don’t have any trees to take clippings from

@@danielsnyder8106 There are two possibilities. If the tree you planted was polyembryonic then you'll get the exact same mango variety as the one you ate. When I saw the grafted tree, I immediately remembered your recent video about grafting avocados and the fact that another plant could grow from a rootstock later on. The way this mango is grafted - under the first set of leaves - seems like a nice way to prevent that from happening as there is no leaf node to support such growth. Unless mango is the type of plant which sometimes grows another plant from its root. Anyway, I am really happy to see a video about mangoes from you as well. I've always been a huge fan of tropical plants, probably because those are something impossible for me to grow or even come across as I don't live in tropical climate. Mangoes are my favorite of those, so it is no surprise that I tried growing my own plant in a pot, not expecting any fruit, just for the sake of growing it. Unfortunately, all my attempts over the years have failed. I managed to get a plant several times using the first method you showed (although it always took a few weeks rather than just few days), however, the plant itself always stopped growing after the first set of leaves grew and died afterward. I think fungus gnats are the cause, they always appear out of nowhere and cause havoc...
@SleepyLizard

Pepso8P, thanks for the comments. Sometimes when I go to edit the vids I end up cutting something that in retrospect to I should have left in the vid. For example, that seed I had in the plastic bag for 10 days was one of five that I put in bags. The other 4 haven’t even started to sprout yet. I think it’s grate meat that you’re growing tropical fruit trees in your house. Maybe someday you’ll have access to a greenhouse and you’ll get fruit!

Very good! Best mangoe growing video I’ve seen, Although I would have mentioned polyembryonic Species of mango versus single embryo Speceis. If you grow a polyembryonic Species from seed it will produce the same fruit as the parent tree, unlike the single embryo species. A good example is the Ataulfo mango, a common species found in grocery stores.
@SleepyLizard

Yeah, I grow Nam Duc Mai which is also polyembryonic. I'm going to do a vid on the difference between the two and how to select the seedlings during mango season this year.

I lived in Florida all my life and have never seen a mango that huge!!! Wow!!! Nectarines and mangos truly are 2 of my favorites...loved your video! I have a mango tree growing doesn't require much, I tried to fertilize it and it was none too happy. It's still hanging in there. I'm looking into Bonsai so that i can keep it. Unsure of what species it is.

This is the best channel for me, because I am growing Mango and Avocados from seed.
@SleepyLizard
3 жыл бұрын
Michael, that's great. Now mangos differ from avocados in that certain varieties are polyembryonic. Unlike everything you and I just discussed about avocados, seeds of polyembryonic mango varieties do produce exact genetic replicas of the mother tree. Each polyembryonic seed produces several seedlings each with it's own root system. One of the seedlings will be fertilized and therefore not a genetic replica but the others are clones of the mother and require no grafting. It's easy to tell the fertilized seedling because it will be the weakest, the runt of the litter. So if you plant mango seeds and find more than one sprout from your seed you'll know you have a polyembryonic variety. Identify the weak one and discard it and let the others grow to maturity and they'll be the same variety and produce identical fruit as the mother tree.

John, thanks for the suggestion. Maybe you found me a funding source for the new shade house i want to build. Have you ever eaten fruit from the monstera? I do not mind the heat & humidity 1 bit as my bones have yet to be cold down here. Our first winter will be interesting but I imagine we will be nowhere as cold as we were in NY.

Yesterday bought two 🥭 to try from the farmers market here in Texas, loved them. I was wondering how to grow them so I could have them growing from seed. Saw your video and absolutely loved the instructions from this video. I’m a new subscriber, and want you to know I have written down the process from your information. By the way I am also growing lemons, oranges, lychees and avocados from seeds. I love growing plants, and where I live it doesn’t have too much cold here until December to March. Then starts warming up quickly by April. On the cold nights I bring them inside, my question is: When do I need to plant them and how do I keep them from the cold since they are able to be planted outside? I live in the North Eastern part of Texas near Oklahoma.
