Gorgeous and historic rifle. It would most certainly suit a scope from around the same era, perhaps a kahles? Enjoy the rifle

Thanks for your kind comments and thanks for watching. I took a doe with it in October during senior doe season. Not familiar with Kahles, but I’ll research it.

@@farleyjj1 well done! Certainly still a very capable rifle. The kahles was supplied factory fit to the later Steyr mannlicher model m/L rifles. Kahles is also an Austrian company, swarovskis sister company in fact. They produce very high quality optics and are at home on top of a Steyr mannlicher or mannlicher shoenauer.

Not to be judgy necessarily, but I think your shooting method may be what's impacting your groups at that range. And the only reason I say that is because I've pulled decent groups with rifles of shorter barrel lengths and much looser tolerances in the barrel. Perhaps changing your grip, not resting your hand on your scope, making sure you have a good natural point of aim/ steady bench rest would change it but I'm only guessing. Thank you for the info on this rifle!

Agreed!! Took a big doe with that during Pennsylvania's "old geezer" doe season in October. Set trigger, off-hand... Thanks for watching!

Try a slower burning powder with heavier bullets. Winchester 760 / Hodgdon 414 ( discontinued - they're the same powder), IMR 4350 or 4831.

And if your plastic tang safety breaks, get with me, I make them out of bar stock steel.

Where can I get a scope for this rifle?

It is tough. These rifles were typically made in a time where iron sights were all that was used. I bought this one with the scope rings already on it, side mounted. The split receiver makes it hard. Sorry that I have no good advice for you.
