Ur articulation and way of explaining this is very thorough and understandable, I appreciate that. Many videos I have found regarding this are simply inadequate and don't explain it in detail let alone while elaborating on helpful strategies to go along with it. It's like a lot of vids I have come across say they are for beginner manual drivers and then skip all the important details in a way that literally makes 0 sense at all, like " here u go this is for beginner learners but u all ready know all this right? So we will skip the good stuff" lol. Should have been titled " tips for intermediate manual racers". I have been Sim racing for 2 months mostly playing FH5 and DR 2.0 on Xbox. I have a Thrustmaster TMX with only the 2-pedal set, haven't upgraded to the T3PA yet and also don't have the TH8A shifter ( yet), simply using the paddles. Most of the time I have driven automatic because of this but I've become increasingly more intrigued by the concept of manual driving. My first learning curve was drifting in FH5, I was obsessed and became fairly efficient at it within a month ( practicing for hours every night), I discovered that I could maintain a drift better around long corners and especially during transitions driving in manual. It was a game changer for me to say the least but still only knew the basics. I get the concept of up shifting but down shifting for whatever reason I could not grasp, as in the timing of it and knowing at what exact speed when decelerating to hunker down and how far, basically the timing in general when in manual has been rough for me and this vid enlightened me far more than any other. This is a he'll of a journey man and I truly can't wait to upgrade my equipment. I will tell u this tho, the Thrustmaster TMX is prolly the best budget wheel on the market. I was so worried it would be a waste of money but I've had immense fun with it and the ffb is actually very solid. So glad I got into this Sim racing culture, it's only up from here eh?

I've spent 15 years on racing games being fairly competitive only using automatic gears but after a couple weeks of playing ACC and racing more serious people, I knew I had to give it a go. Did a couple normal laps around Kylami and was doing low 1:47s, then switched to manual gears for the first time ever and despite how difficult it was and not focusing as much on my lines, I was doing high 1:44s after half an hour.. After *never* using manual gears. Just shows how beneficial it truly is

I've started using manual gears in all types of racing games, and it's ridiculous how bad the AI really is in more casual racing games. You loose soo much time with auto gears, and the computer usually shifts too early and you loose a lot of the power you get from higher revs. With manual gears, you even get more grip during racing.

The thing is, as someone who has only driven manual cars in real life, I know the theory and what I have to do, but I don't "feel" it using paddle shifters. It's hard to explain, but for some reason, having to go through every single gear every time and not having the haptic feedback in which gear I'm currently in confuses my brain. Do you have any tips?

Is heel and toe effective in ACC? Also, shifting from 6th to 2nd do you heel and toe in every gear or you jump-shifting and heel and toe once in 2nd before you let the clutch?
@HochstartHarry
3 жыл бұрын
First question, yes it is. Heel and toe is always faster because you are braking and shifting at the same time with revmatch and not after each other. And i jump gears on hairpins and blip once.. But sometimes i use 2-3 gears inbetween for extra braking, laguna seca turn one for example, aproach in 5th downshift to 3rd and then exit in 2nd

But is theres no point in using the clutch in ACC? since all cars are sequential?

I’m a beginner with manual driving and trying to understand with these games… some of these games driving manual is very tough but I guess since my gen (millennials) most of us drive automatics and didn’t really dabble with manuals.

Where do you look when shifting, sometimes I see myselft focusing to much on the rev limiter? Is it enought to hear the sound and learn the shifts?

So I got a question, are there any sims dedicated to realism? Some that are meant for training purposes? I hate to put it like this, but something like GTA’s flight school or driving school would be awesome

Beamng is the closest simulation based on our current tech, assetto corsa is another one. Any further you'll have to wait for better game engine development and game making, or just get a car

City Car Driving and BeamNG. Also, GTA flight school is nothing like real life; I'm sure you know. A better alternative for a flight simulator would be X-Plane 11. DCS and Falcon BMS are fun and great for learning combat.

For heel and toe you said to "blip the throttle right after releasing the clutch". As a pro driver you know better! I compete in amateur racing (NASA/SCCA, etc) so I'm not just a gamer like I suspect most people playing these games are. I had my most dangerous spin while trail braking entering a corner hot when my foot slipped and I released the clutch before the revs had been matched. Perhaps you misspoke.
