2,500 years ago, Socrates asked a question: who would you save in a fire - your wife or child?
On a long autumn evening, when, after dinner, the family had gone to their rooms, I took a Socratic volume out of the closet; sometimes you can read such philosophical thoughts. Socrates, the great philosopher and father of many children, loved to go into the square and ask tricky questions to his peers.
One question stunned me. He asked, "If there's a fire and there's a wife and child in the fire, and there's only one person to save. Who would you save?" All of the men answered "the child, of course."
