Think your vehicle Map Sensor is faulty? Well maybe not! I found that the very thin hose leading from the Inlet Manifold to my Map Sensor was failing, and closing up when a power boost was demanded from the engine. Check the hose very carefully, before buying a new map sensor, which won't help the problem if it's actually the hose that's at fault. This was my Generation 4, iteration 1 Mitsibushi Pajero/Shogun NS, but the problem/solution could apply to almost any modern engine. It's worth mentioning that there may still be an issue with the MAP sensor that might be operating outwith it's original factory specifications, but I suspect that would show up as another check engine fault, so if the check engine light resets and doesn't show the same fault again, I'm happy to assume it's OK.
