Good question! I di dnot grow this. It came with a shipment of trees from, I think, korea, a few years back. I saw them at an exhibition as just trunks for a very reasonable price. Still hate myself for not just buying all 10 of them!

Had a slightly-unrelated question. I saw a fairly large trident in a nursery near me, but instead of using cut paste or leaving wounds open, they had cut aluminum/aluminium foil sheets to perfectly fill the wound. There was no one nearby I could ask about it, but have you heard of this practice? Do you know why this choice might be made?
@XaviersBonsaiRetreat

Sorry for butting in but Ryan Neil has used this technique before but I dont think it is his preferred method.
@GrowingBonsai
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I know of it. A friend in my club uses it. It is self-adhesive alu foil used in construction. They swear by it, stating that the wounds close more evenly. Have not tried it myself. Come to think of it.. Something for next summer to trial!

@GrowingBonsai

i use the little japanese tubs with the green lid predominantly. I jave started to use liquid japanese cutfluid. Both have the benefit that the tree can close the wound below the paste, in contrast to most western produchts available.

@GrowingBonsai

I know of the method. I have not seen any convincing resutls. I have spoken to Hans about it, and I understand it is not a techinque he commonly uses. I have tried it once and gave up because the bark keeps breaking when trying to fold it.

@Growing Bonsai by Jelle maybe it's just the tree? Been trying for a couple of years now. Hardwood cutting fail, softwood cutting fall. I have tried a bunch of methods and tried different times of year. Just never take. I am not sure why. My tree also never fully loses its leaves in Winter either.
