Finding ways for cities to be more sustainable is what Carter Jonas aims to achieve with the help of GIS technology. For 160 years, the multidisciplinary property consultants have provided a range of property advice across rural planning and development both residential and commercial. Carter Jonas has partnered with Cambridge Ahead, a nonprofit community think tank, to create a more sustainable city. With the rapid growth of Cambridge there is a need to decrease traffic from driving and moving towards alternative modes of transportation, namely cycling. GIS technology is pivotal in bringing together all the information that relates to planning and development. By collecting information, storing it, updating it, and then being able to visualize it. Utilizing ArcGIS’ Survey123 app to collect information from Cambridge residents and the community itself ensures that the data collected is used to address concerns and impediments. GIS Dashboards allow the data collected to be visualized very quickly in an interactive way. Together, with the help of GIS technology, finding a better, more sustainable future for Cambridge is within reach.
