Id love to see some of your polymer clay boxes you talked about! Even if you dont actually do a tutorial id be very interested to see a couple!! Ive been trying to figure out a way to make a mold to make boxes!
@heathernwells

I don't have any of my old boxes any more :( I did it two different ways. I made boxes measuring and cutting out template pieces, and using tls to keep them together, then I also used cookie cutters to form boxes of unusual shapes like circles and hearts.

Hi Heather, This was a great tutorial! Thank you!! I am a beginner at this polymer clay craft. So, my question is, at the end of the video, I saw a very nice sheen in your sheet of clay. Is that a natural sheen from the conditioning process or did you add something to it to get that affect?
@heathernwells
Жыл бұрын
Running it through the pasta roller repeatedly does put on a bit of a sheen. Thank you so much for commenting. Sorry I missed this before

Hi Heather. I love your videos and your style. Thank you for sharing your talent. I have one question about the above video. Near the end, did your put the long rope of marbled clay into the pasta machine as is or did you fold it first?

Awesome technic! how could we use this technic If we wanted to add golden flakes and liquid polymeric clay? Would it be the same technic? Just twisting and rolling all the things together?
@heathernwells
Жыл бұрын
I would add the gold at the very end. There are some great polymer art pieces using gold and silver leaf with translucents. I haven’t play with them marbling at all. But I have used gold leaf in the final pasta machine roll throughs. And and mokume gane .. not sure if I spelled that right

@heathernwells

I do plan on making the enchilada tutorial. It is a very complex one though, and will be a very long tutorial. I usually use 7 colors of clay to get the right color for re-fried beans. I use multiple colors for the Spanish rice too, The Spanish rice is marbled :) It is one of my most realistic. I promise I will get to it, but it may be a couple of weeks before I have the time to do both the written and video tutorial for it. P.S. Here is the written tutorial for my rainbow lollipop. The candy cane technique is similar :) Someday I will make a video for this one too docs.google.com/document/d/1AZz84Sp35Yi12o679BLN5jtmALnEA70Oye3sgx2Rud0/pub Heather

Have you ever put that through a clay extruder? If so, was the result variegated? I'm making a faux knit sweater picture frame, and I've been trying to find a good technique to mimic a variegated yarn when it goes through the extruder.
@heathernwells
10 жыл бұрын
Hannah Reimer I have not had much luck with marbled clay going through the extruder and changing color much. But putting layered clay should work, I would make a banded log of clay, that would look similar to the Cheshire's cat tail from Disney's Alice in wonderland.

How do I decide how many of each colour use? Let's say I want to make a bowl with white, and 2 shades of blue, but want it to be mostly white.
@keggsefreser1234

Maybe you can try 1 part white and 1/2 part of each blue shade the more you want the white to be dominant the more you should use I guess

I am a newcomer in this field what do you mean by conditioning
@heathernwells
Жыл бұрын
Ahhh 😌 great question. It means softening the clay. If you don’t soften it enough before cooking it….. it can crack in the oven. Heart breaking when that happens. Conditioning just means kneading it over and over till when you bend it and squeeze it, it stops cracking

Very intriguing.... I am sure I can make clay look like a marble. It wont have the same weight to it as glass though.
@heathernwells

After answering, I saw the question another way... Do you mean the stone marble, like marbled floors, and counters? I think that is actually why they named the technique marbling. One of the very first polymer clay books I bought had a section on faux stone varieties with polymer clay. Marble, malachite, and Jade, and even opal
@saucysoosie

I could make clay look like a marble, but i don't think it would roll the same way. It doesn't have the same weight since glass is heavier

You can get a pasta/ clay roller pretty cheap either with coupons like the 40% offs from michaels and such I got a darice one (all metal nice and heavy) for under 15$ before any coupons

Lorraine Brooks Those 40% off coupons are great. You can also use a lucite clay roller, sold in the polymer clay section. It works well, it just takes you more time to roll out the clay. Those should be under $10.00. If you are rolling your clay out with a clay roller, it will help to use roll it b etween two sheets of parchment paper. you can dust the clay with cornstarch, flour, or baby powder to help keep the clay from sticking.
@BrightnessRadiant

honestly, if you want the best bang for your buck, id invest in a pasta roller. I bought the one from Michaels...no good in my opinion. Pasta rollers are much more sturdy and put out a better result. I got one from Bed Bath and Beyond for about 30 bucks

Sometimes I can't film alone, I allowed my little ones to use my computer, or play video games quietly while I am filming. I turn it down so low, that I didn't think anyone would hear it.
